But his political views... whew chile. He's all leave them at the boarder, illegal immigrants bring crime, most cops are just doing their jobs...
Is it crazy that I'm thinking of ending things over this?
First of all the things you listed are all major signs you're dating a Trump supporter.
Also politics doesn't matter, other then the fact they're stupid and make us all dumber not just as individual people but as a society, but they have nothing to do with the relationship you share with him.
It sounds like you found a guy who you like. He treats you right and maybe he's patient and genuine, willing to wait till after marriage for you. Maybe he's got a half decent job or at least one on the way. How many people like that have you even heard of in real life? I've meet one.
I also wanna say that a lot of the problem with politics is that most people don't even understand half these beliefs.
Of course the average white young Trump supporter thinks the police are great. Put on an episode of cops for him and let him see the cops trying to bend some guys arm a way it doesn't go while yelling "stop resisting" he probably doesn't have enough perspective to understand why saying that to you would seem so dense.
Yea there's a lot of good cops but most of the problems are a few bullies and the people in charge of them. Their training is sickening.
I'm not saying this to change your opinion or anything just trying to show how two people's different perspectives can really make the other side of the argument to seem worse than it really is.
Anyway please don't let this guy's politics stop you from talking to him. Everyone has flaws we gotta learn to accept them just like how we want to be accepted with our own flaws. The happiest married people that I know by the way is this really old couple across the street from my grandma both white but ones a hardcore republican and the other is a die hard liberal. Like if one of them likes a certain politician you can be totally sure the other one has a whole essay ready about why they hate that guy. But I've never seen 2 people work together so well. Their just really amazing friends who love each other. And that's all that matters right? Why let it get polluted with bullshit?
Politically there are 4 kinds of people i'd date :
- Trump supporters because they tend to share similar views to mine even if it does not fully align.
- Non political people who do not mind listening to my idea's.
- People with similar idea's but who refuse to choose for the lesser evil.
- People who oppose my views but can do so in a positive way, she can have opposing beliefs but then we'd need to use it as an opportunity to have fun deep conversations, not as a means of arguing.
It really depends. I could date a Trump supporter if he's one of those guys that thinks Trump is shit but hates the opposition more or if he's the type that thinks Trump is funny and knows that our 2 party political system is a joke (which is my personal stance) since its bullshit how Bernie got knocked out of the race, and its extremely annoying how everyone on the left calls everyone on the right a racist / nazi / privileged which funny enough caused white men who can't express themselves without being categorized to go "fuck it, i am a nazi!" which bloomed casual racism everywhere since nazi and racism lost their meaning.
BUT if a guy unironically supports Trump and think he's a good standard for a president or buys into the Qanon and "Trump is playing 3d chess" bullshit, fucks no i'm not dating that guy.
And just for the sake of argument because annoys me.
- Boarder control is grey, yes your denying a better life for people who want to immigrant in the US, but it does put strain on locals who have to pay for it, low paying jobs become acceptable and crime does increase (but only a little), these things are fact which is why China, Russia, Israel, every country bordering a third world one has tight boarder control and immigration restrictions, if immigration was pure 100% good EVERYONE would be begging Indians or Africans to migrate but its grey.
- Police shooting black men is bullshit and cops who shoot innocent men should be punished, but often the shooting victims aren't angels, American ghettos are next level and a Canadian / Swedish / UK police officer wouldn't survive a month being a cop in Compton or Detroit, shit is grey af
most stances aren't good or evil, people want to believe so because its easier to understand the world if everything is decided into 2 sides when in reality most things are grey and there's some truth to both sides, even if its unplesent
Yes i would dump him :
im sorry. let me tell you what this trump era has done for me. I have not met one trump supporter who has giving me a an actual reason based on pure facts and not thier feelings on why they thought he was xyz. Only just fingers pointing as always.
i find myself dating white guys less and less becasue i honestly have developed a fear of them. And i question thier motives were at one time i gave everyone the benefit of the doubt.
i no longer do. I much more guarded than i was before.
i mean at the end of the day i can't even imagine meeting his family. I hate discord. and i will not stand for any disrespect. and let face it people say some of the worst things with out thought sometimes.
2020 and racism is what all this politics are about. truth. we had a black president and many could not cope as it was somehow going to erase thier color i guess.
so yes i would be done as i hate wasting time and i would have to be honest.
as honesty is so so important.

Why does his political views mean anything? I mean I guess if you really despise Trump that much, I can see how that can make you see your boyfriend in a negative light.
However, you said yourself he's a perfect gentleman and you like everything else about him right?
As long as he's not shoving his views down your throat, wants to change you, or says anything that offends you, give him a chance! You can be with someone that is of another political view and still care for them.
by the way, no I'm not a Trump supporter, I'm just keeping an open mind about the situation and how I would handle it.
This sounds like a really great learning opportunity. I'm a little bit surprised that you are thinking about cutting things off.
It seems to me that the fact he is a gentleman and treats you well is an indication that someone's choice to vote for one candidate or another has nothing to do with their ability to form a healthy relationship independent of race? I mean... that makes sense to me... why wouldn't the fact that a white, male, Trump supporter is having a relationship with a black woman tell you that not only is the hateful ideology espoused by certain Trump supporters, NOT shared by all Trump supporters; but that your understanding of what Trump supporters think is not actually reflective of what they really think?
This is interesting and I think you're right. I'm usually the least judgmental person but best believe I was judging the hell outta his ass yesterday lmao. I shouldn't generalize all Trump supporters though because my experience with a few have been awful. So I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
I still might end things depending on where his head is at though. I've mentioned it in other comments, but I date to marry, and I'm not sure if I could live and have kids with someone who thinks, "blacks are lazy," and that they bring crime upon themselves. I need someone who recognizes systematic racism and tries to be a part of the solution, not the problem. Immigration, okay yeah, we can disagree. The black struggle in America and the large impact racism has on our society? no sir, can't get behind that.
Lol when I read āthe boyā at the beginning of your question I literally flatlined. 💀ā ļø. Also, all Iām gonna say is, thatās the price you pay by dating a White person. Lol gotta take a gamble on their political views.
LMAO I'm dead, you really said dating a white person is luck of the draw šš²š²ā ļøā„ļøā¦ļøā£ļø
Iām not sure I could handle it. Trump is a moron and con man and I find it hard to understand how anyone canāt see through him.
that said as a non American (and even as one who typically supports local conservative parties where I live) I barely run into trump supporters in real life. Without the parts of the US media ecosystem supporting him he just looks like an idiot. So if I lived in the US maybe Iād be more sympathetic to his supporters?
It's interesting to see someone's perspective from outside the U. S. But I agree, if he didn't have supporters he would just look dumb.
I think people support him because he's different, and he plays on their anger and frustration. Like Trump supporters, and extreme liberals sometimes too, tend to let their emotions get the best of them. There seems like there's less logic and more "fuck the illegals" or "abortion is murder" with no real rational backing, just feelings.
Nah. I couldn't do that to myself. Most Trump supporters follow him blindly and see no faults in anything he says or does. Their values and morals don't align with mine and it wouldn't work. It might start out good, but eventually it would crumble because I speak my mind too much and you're not allowed to have an opposing opinion to Trump supporters. Just blindly follow. So, I'm good.
Lmao I've dealt with that crap so much with guys in college and online. At this point, i need a dude whos black and whos not even about politics. Cause i honestly dont wanna support either party at this point.
I just told my mamma this. Next stop... melanin! š„µš
It's so much easier to date in your own racw.
Yea it is. I mean there's a risk of running into the some who got sumn smart to say like āyou dont have enough ass for meā or āyou not hood enough for meā but its better than the risk of being called the N word by someone outside your race
He seems like a good person but there may be fundamental issues in the long run. I donāt think thereās anything wrong with him it just seems like if you have political disagreements that will be hard to bridge. Period...
@Asker did you downvote me ;(
No sir, I did not. Whoever did must not have liked the period you added on the end for dramatic affect. š
There's definitely something wrong with him though. š don't tell him i said that.
Nah seriously i think i just need to get to know him more, keep an open mind, and discuss the fact that if our political beliefs are too different we may not work out.
Thank and good luck Iām curious how it ends up
Lmfao I have a boyfriend now and itās not him š. Hope heās well tho
I couldn't date a conservative. I don't mind disagreeing on that shit with friends but not a partner.
Trump supporters seem to be far right of conservatism.
@coffeewithcream I couldn't date even a non reactionary conservative. We would clash too much.
What if you're neither?
@Red_Dragon liberals only for me.
I think I'm with you on this, but really only a conservative Trump supporter, not a conservative in general.
All just depends on your preferences fam. I'm VERY liberal for an American so it just doesn't jive with me.
But there is also a difference between a Joe Rogan liberal who looks at facts and data and says "Yeah I may be liberal but I do NOT agree with this guy." Verus the flaming authoritative ones. Me personally the only label you could give me is nationalist. I like some Republicans and some Democrats. Dislike some Republicans and some Democrats. For example I like Tulsi Gabbard (Democrat who was even running for president) but I also like say senator Hawley (A Republican).
Well your just not trying to understand his point of view. I would date Trump supporter. Okey why he doesn't support illegals coming in. Ok so do you want that any person enter your country with out any documents? Maybe that person killed people or escaped prison and now gona rape and kill in your place. So for me it makes sense not to support open borsers need to be nuts to support it. Well the role of cops is to do there job and if someone argues with cops they just do there job and USA is not the safes place to live many people with guns so cops need to protect them self.
Yes it is crazy, because you are too wrapped up in your own views to consider that he may well be right. The media has led you to believe that Trump's supporters are a "basket of deplorables" which is not the case.
Instead of ending the relationship you should open your mind to the possibility that you might be wrong. I cannot identify anything he has said which is fundamentally incorrect so you should rethink it too.
Uhh leaving illegal immigrants at boarder for one. Fundamentally wrong. You can not put people in cages.
If the roles were reversed and Americans felt inclined to leave America out of fear for their safety and I don't know Canada said "fuck Americans, they're criminals put them in cages" best believe we'd be pissesed. And rightly so.
As for ending things with him, I am still considering it. We can disagree on Immigration and taxes. We can not disagree on the black struggle in America. I'm not teaching my kids that "blacks are lazy," as Trump claims.
"Uhh leaving illegal immigrants at boarder for one. Fundamentally wrong. You can not put people in cages." Incorrect. The United States are a sovereign power, they may imprison anyone who enters illegally however they see fit. Everyone who crosses the border has committed a crime, to be detained is a light punishment. Many countries would have no issue shooting any such trespassers.
And no, the "roles are reversed" is entirely bullshit. If an American unlawfully enters another country and suffers the consequences that is their problem, I would not be pissed and neither would any of Trumps supporters. To be pissed off that another country is enforcing their borders is ridiculous, it is not something which we have a say in as a matter of course.
You obviously understand very little about international relations, geopolitics, or how international power is applied. Maybe you should listen more and talk less.
LMAO why y'all always use insulting others as a defense mechanism? "Talk less, listen more," headass. How about I use my first amendment right and choose not to shut the fuck up?
And you're right, The U. S. can do whatever the hell they want. Doesn't make what they're doing right. I would hate illegal immigration too if the process weren't so difficult. You ever taken an immigration test? I have. Not so easy, Opinion Owner. Most Americans would fail. Americans dumb, but we expect the people we bring in to be smarter? WTF, we need to educate our people first if that's the case.
And you say that now, but I bet if you felt unsafe living in America, if you were being bombed daily, etc. you'd be worrying about getting you and your children to safety and your entire viewpoint would change. PLUS (almost) EVERYONE IN AMERICA IS A DAMN IMMIGRANT. Black people. White people. Yo mamma, yo baby mamma, all of them. Real ironic to say "fuck the immigrants," when you wouldn't be here without immigration.
Again, I said immigration debates aren't even that big of a deal at their core. The issue is that he supports someone who is racist and inconsiderate. The people you support speaks to your character and morals. You have obviously shown you care little about human life and he may be the same way. That is a problem. Leaving children in cages? Children? Disgusting.
"He just went all trump 2020 on me in the car today. I'm black and he's white"
Food for thought: Joe Biden co-authored the bill that massively increased the incarceration rates and prison sentences of black youth. Donald Trump supported and signed the reform that will lower both.
And unless she is a Nazi or a Commie I don't care if we agree on politics.
whoa whoa whoa. who ever said I liked Joe? I don't know enough about him, but from what I do know, I don't claim him either. I'm just saying Trump, and a handful of his supporters, ain't it.
Bernie was my guy. sigh. :(
Nah. Being a republican is one thing, but supporting Trump is something entirely different. Shows who he is as a person. I wouldn't.
I see no issue with dating someone of the same or different political views.
Me neither honestly. I don't mind republicans, I do mind a Trump supporter. 100 years in the future, people are going to look back on Trump supporters like "wtf, I can't believe people were really like that back then." sigh.
Are politics really that important? I can disagree with someone's political views without thinking that they are terrible because of it.
I think so. I mean at first I'd be inclined to say, no, it's not that deep. But I date to eventually marry and I'm not sure if I want him teaching our future kids stuff like "blacks are lazy" and "all illegal immigrants bring crime." My future kids will be black and while I want them to form their own opinions about politics when they're older, I don't need them thinking they're less than because of the color of their skin.
I donāt think politics are important unless itās something he believes that affects you personally like blacks or immigration or whatever. If heās just fiscally conservative or whatever that probably doesnāt matter to you personally.
@Asker I wouldn't date anyone that thinks "blacks are lazy" either. However, that doesn't have to do with their political beliefs; it has to do with their character or rather lack there of.
It does though, because Trump literally said laziness is a trait in blacks, among other racist and offensive things. I guess, to me, it deals with politics because if you support Trump, then you probably support the racist things he says too, right?
It an issue of moral and politics.
You need to look at it from his side. Illegals sadly do a lot of things in America that isn't cool. The average American is not a racist. So how does Trump get so much support? It's because Americans are tired of certain situations in their country - like illegals bringing drugs, using American tax dollars on their healthcare etc.
Your boy just belongs to that group - the tired-of-bullshit-openly-happening-in-usa-and-seeing-politicians-be-politically-correct group.
Where do people get this information about illegals committing more crimes? Almost all the stats I've seen from pew and other websites show there is no link. Actually, they often show the opposite.
All people do terrible things. White, black, Mexican, Japanese. It has nothing to do with ethnicity or race. That's why people think Trump supporters are racist, because many single out a group of people, typically of the same race, and stereotype them without much proof. Trump once said illegal immigrants are, "rapists... some, I guess, are good people."
It's okay to be fed up. I'm tired of the bs too. And it's not okay that immigrants use American tax dollars. The solution isn't being racist and locking children in cages tho. Instead we should be figuring out why they don't come legally, what flaws we have in our system that make the process more complex than necessary. We shouldn't be motivated solely by anger and frustration. Logic and understanding is also important.
I agree with you, statistically immigrants aren't the bigger problem. But in the eyes of Trump's following, there is a world of difference between an illegal person doing ANY crime versus a US born doing MOST crime - because the illegal shouldn't be here anyway. It's in places like Texas where drug groups operate from across the border.
See, your boy comes from a privileged background - he doesn't see the world like you do. And that's at the root of this.
The logic behind a lot of these is understood but many Americans don't want to deal with it when their own country seems to be sliding into difficulties. Hence came the Trump era - he reminded Americans of an earlier, happier past and made them believe he is the solution. People understand the logic part. Why do illegals cross the border and come here? - It's because of poverty back where they are, but it doesn't matter to Trump's supporters. Because you can't in the end of the day, be magnanimous enough to entertain the whole world (many countries are poor) and they want people to follow the visa/immigration process. Bottom line is you see those people as humans in difficult circumstances, and Trump's supporters see them people who twist rules for their own sake.
In certain ways America is sliding down due to a lot of it's own shortcomings - education being the cost of a home mortgage, health care being a bomb, people living on drugs just to go about the day, broken families. But the illegals and others are convenient scapegoats for a REAL conversation they don't want to have. Trump being the good salesman presented he was the solution to bring America to its past glory and people bought it. He even did good with the economy before COVID-19 hit, so that put him in an even better spot. That's the base he has. I'm curious what position your boyfriend has on Obama.
Sorry but hell nah... Pretty sure anyone who supports trumps and his ideas are also racist, sexist and more.
I would date one. I wouldn't judge whether I'd be in a relationship with someone by his political views. This might be largely because I'm not a political person myself. I don't tend to get involved in those types of debates and arguments.
Thereās nothing wrong with not being someone if theyāre too different from you and you can see it being a problem down the road.
never cared about a persons politics. Unless they were like leftists, which tend to hate anyone that doesn't believe what they believe. My wife is conservative, and i am a classical liberal. by the way we both voted trump.. and will vote trump again.
Unrelated to the question, but why you vote for him? šŖ
And damn y'all relationship really works? Are you a mixed race couple?
I voted trump because Hilary was worse by far.
Thatās up to you. Probably shouldnāt affect your decision to date him because of you donāt date republicans you chop of ~45% of all potential single guys.
I would broaden my scope, but I'm not lowering my standards to have more options. It's not really about republicans in general though, more about trump supporters.
