How to let a girl down easy?

Yesterday, I asked a girl to hangout and I was down really really bad. Like this girl I would’ve never thought of dating I made her out to look like nicki Minaj or something. But I asked her to hangout and she said yeah then an hour or 2 she said “so were you thinking of me and you?” I said “what do you mean” I know what she meant now but I just woke up from a nap and was clueless. Then she basically said what do you think of me and you being girlfriend and boyfriend? I said “sorry I’m trying to focus on myself for right now but you’re really nice person though.” She said oh we can get to know each other first and get to know each other. I was thinking no we’re staying just friends but didn’t actually text that. Now she’s blowing up my phone. So what should I say to let her down easy? I’m going to let you girls answer this one
