My crush called me cute but still rejected me , why?

So basically today was the last day of school. My 3 friends and I decided to go to Belleview square to hang out. While we were walking we saw the guy who rejected me. I was like "OMG..." cause I still haven't lost feelings. So I ignored it so then we went to Starbucks. We were waiting in line and the guy who rejected me, let's call him C, came in with his friends. They were standing right behind us and his friends kept talking about me, and then they teased me (not because I got rejected but I don't know why) and it was funny. Cause at one point his friends and C were talking about me and they mentioned my name and one of his friends said, "my name" I turned around and C's face was bright red. I was like, "hm?" and he said, "THERE ISN"T ANY OTHER my name IN THE WORLD" I was like ok? So then when I got my drink I put it under my nickname and when my drink was ready the Starbucks people called It out. And his friends said, "my nickname" in a teasing voice. I was like wtf. So then I left Starbucks and then I learned that my friend, let's call her B, said, "C's closest friend told me that C thinks your cute but likes you as a friend." I'm like huh? I don't understand. Like could he like me but isn't ready for a relationship or is too shy? Or does he really not like me. Should I talk to him and ask him? I need advice!!! Tyy
