My boyfriend opened up about having mutual feelings for a girl for almost 5 years without talking to her. He said that it started coz she glanced over at him from across the room and that he'd hide behind a wall and just watch her from a distance each time he sees her but they never approached eachother due to cultural differences. He said it all ended 2 years ago and we only recently got into a relo, but even though he shares public photos with me, he still goes to the extent of coding our pics to hide them from her. It's like to make sure his 'ex' doesn't even know he's in a relationship with me.

Of course you should break up with him. If you really had feelings for you then there wouldn't be another girl. Leave him before he leaves you. Trust me it's going to hurt a lot but it's going to hurt a lot less compared to him leaving you for her. But be open and honest about while you're breaking up with him. So that he knows that what he's doing isn't right and that you are not going to tolerate that kind of behavior. After you wake up with him, it might take him sometime, but he might realize that he was in the wrong and gravitate closer to you.

Hey, he won't leave me for her, as I said- for cultural reasons they can't and won't get together. But he'll be in a relationship with me while thinking of her, and that is something I shouldn't tolerate

Well no it's not, just because they can't be together, doesn't mean he doesn't want to be. If there wasn't a barrier between them, he'd probably be with her rather than you. That should bother you, and should be a good reason to separate. But then again do what you want to do.
