Should I keep trying? How?

I am a very shy person and I met a guy at a club and I found him REALLY cute. I was kinda drunk but we made out and danced for an hour and more. I said he should text me and he took my phone and added his number to my phone with his full name and sent himself a text. That same night when I reached home I texted him a message (nothing interesting), but he never texted me back, so now there's two messages sent to him from my number, one that he sent himself and another that I sent him. I waited a few days (3 full days) and then followed him on Instagram, his profile is public. But in an hour he posted some pictures on Instagram and didn't follow me back. And till now didn't respond to my message or text me himself. At this point I am wondering if he also gave me his fake number? What should I do now, should i drop this or should I keep trying? And if I should keep trying, what should be my steps? I have an insane fear of rejection and it affects my mental health sometimes because i rarely like someone enough to think about them longer than a day.
