Do guys prefer girls just to say no or more like indirectly decline?

lets say in scenarios that I've experienced like this:

a guy insisted that i wear his things such as a cartoon hat or his sneakers? [my current response: I don't want to wear a hat because its going to mess up my curls but tbh i don't want to wear it because I've seen many other women wear it before]
a guy insist we should take photos together? [this one I didn't really know what to say?]
a guy asked to hold hands? [i just said maybe the next date but he still went for it]

in this case i suppose I've been quite indirect...

Indirect and polite works for me and is more pleasant but in Japanese culture, we place maximum emphasis on taking hints and reading body language. People who can't are called KY (Kuuki Yomenai). I'm far from one of those.

Here in Japan, it is actually considered extremely rude to directly reject people or say things like, "No." Instead, we say things like, "Maybe..." or "I'll think about it..." That might seem foolish but everyone here knows that this means "no". It's a very polite way to say "no" that is trying to protect the other person's dignity and honor while still letting them know, indirectly, that we're rejecting their offer.

That said, I spent a good number of years in the United States where people don't have this culture. It's so bad that I had a door-to-door salesman where I'd say things like, "I'll think about it," and they wouldn't leave and keep trying to persuade me to buy things. That is so incredibly rude and unprofessional by Japanese standards! They can't seem to take hints at all. So I did learn, through the process of being Americanized, to say things like "I don't give a shit about what you are selling. Fuck off and go to hell and get a real job, faggot! [slam door]" But that is considered so rude here. Anyway, I'm used to both ways so I can take and dish it both ways.

Thank you, i was just wondering in the case if after being polite/indirect the other person still proceeds to do whatever we declined by saying maybe another time, how would the next response should be?

For me -- interpreting in the Japanese way -- that always means "no" unless she invites me to do it after. So I will take the hint not to bother her again with this topic.

No, it doesn't matter why the answer is no, no means no.

You have to be a dick about it though, asking you why not isn't necessarily a refusal to accept your no answer but could just be about understanding why the answer is no; we are curious creatures.

But you are certainly not required to explain yourself, this will presumably depend on the context and relationship you have.

I'd always say being direct is better, that way it can't be misinterpreted. In the examples above, no explanation should be required unless you have a reason and want to give it.

Just say no you dont have to beat around the bush. They’ll probably try again but just stand firm and tell them you’re serious
