What is it like dating someone who isn't over their ex?

The guy im dating told me he still loves his ex of 10 years, but doesn't trust her. And he is still in pain because of her. So isn't where he wants to be mentally / emotionally, but he is hoping for a relationship with me.
They have been broken up for about 3 years now.

I’m kinda in the same situation he brings her up here and there during chats with friends or to me. It upsetted me at some point I confronted him and he said he doesn’t love her but he had sex with her so that’s part of him now and he can’t and doesn’t want to forget her.


Girl you’re in for a lot of hurting and it will only get worse if you want to stay you’ll always have a competition and it shouldn’t be like that. He’s not over her he’ll never be. You would think this through
