What’s the reason that some women try to follow the same taste in men as more attractive women?

I’ve heard it’s a phenomenon that if an attractive girl is interested in a guy, or dating him, suddenly all other women will also be interested in him. Basically that women want to date the same men as the girls they think are attractive or more attractive than they are.

My friend is extremely pretty, was miss teen UK and I’ve noticed that when she wants to date someone, suddenly all her other friends take interest in the guy all of a sudden as well. One of her friends is cute but not as pretty as my friend but always suddenly takes an interest in those guys as well. It’s so weird.

Why is this a thing? Do people tend to follow the dating preferences of attractive people or people they view as “more attractive” than themselves?

This is so true. I actually watched a video on this and the guy hit the nail on the head. Basically, women who are not that secure in themselves will want the same mates as the women they envy. They think that by “getting” the same guys as them, it validates them as being on the same level of prettiness. They want to prove (to themselves) that they aren’t inferior to the other woman.

So, your friend who is probably beautiful, is envied by other women. So to alleviate their feelings of perceived inferiority and insecurity, they go after the same men.

True friends don’t do this though.

It's completely true! Women are like sheep. They care too much about other women's opinion.

I had a friend in highschool with health problems something genetic which made him walk weird. That was all. He was a great guy. But his girlfriend left him after a month of being together because everyone was making fun of her. He was devastated.
So girls can be so stupid and cruel!

Well he graduated before me, left town and we lost touch, I hope he moved on and this is not a big trauma experience for him.
I think it's genetics. Having offspring is the main drive for all species. Women can have a few kids so we have to choose the best DNA to reproduce. Men on the other hand count on quantity not so much on quality. Seems to me this is the basics of the human psychology.

It is stupid and cruel but it's in our genes, cannot really fight it
