I am doing this for a long time and many cats and dogs found their forever home. Most girls in my age group find it boring, my guy friends make fun of me and make prank calls to tease me. They are into parties, and car-bike ridings in their free time and girls seem to love them. I like what I do but sometimes it's lonely for me and I don't have anyone to fall back on. . Yesterday I rescued this kitten from a guy who was beating her with a stick. She got adopted today

Yes, I do like people who volunteer in animal rescue firms, but I’d like it if they did it because they genuinely loved doing so and not because it helps them score dates / want others to praise them for it. If a guy i was interested in also volunteered helping animals, that would be an added bonus! I’d think he was productive, empathetic, caring and sensitive.. which are all good traits to have.
Don’t mind your friend. He/she is a silly goose. Do whatever you like. You should not be ashamed of doing something you enjoy. That too, you’re helping these poor souls. I think a lot of girls would like someone who likes helping animals

Although I don't do it for dates I am concerned about this lifestyle and getting depressed by it. Guy friends encourage me to change otherwise no one will date a guy like me while young as young girls want to have fun. Girlfriends tell me guys like you are only good after the thirties. Lately, I was struggling a lot seeing all my friends are getting into relationships for years and I am the guy with animals and books (I am a grad student).
Asker, please keep in mind that your friends are young men in their 20s who have insecurities. They’re victims of societal pressure. They’re trying to change themselves to find dates - which will lead to nowhere if they want a serious, long term relationship. Don’t change yourself. Genuine women like genuine guys. Not guys who change themselves to score dates. Please don’t let your friends influence who you really are. If a woman refuses to go on a date with you JUST because you’re volunteering at an animal shelter, she’s definitely NOT worth it. Such shallow women do not deserve you at all. And honestly, you need better friends
Yeah, I guess so but sometimes the mind goes beyond logic. It's not like they don't like guys who volunteer especially but some think it's a girl's job or want to have a fun carefree lifestyle. Imagine you want to go partying and your guy can't go as one of the kitten puppies in a shelter is suddenly sick or they don't like guys that cry over a dead kitten, as the kitten was so friendly and got sick suddenly, for that the guy had a spend a weekend looking after her and still she died.
I, personally, don’t go to parties unless it is organized by my family. (Sounds lame, but it’s fun spending time with extended family) I’m introverted and I’m not big into partying anyway.
Honestly.. i knew what I was getting into before I got into a relationship with him. If my man wants to stay, then I have two options :- - either I could go partying alone (which is highly unlikely) - or I could stay with him, take care of the kitty and all 3 of us could have a movie night
There’s always downsides to adopting a pet. I’d be there for him and give him a hug
Well It's their loss if they don't want you, the important thing is that you know your own value so just continue to keep your head high and don't bother with what they say.
