If a person likes someone romantically but it’s not reciprocated & so hang out regularly as friends, will they get hurt when the other gets a partner?

I mean that’s kinda dependent on the person. I’ve been in situations where I was interested in someone I ended up being great friends with when they didn’t feel the same way, but I never got hurt when they got a boyfriend.

For people is different from making distance so the feelings die to cutting the person off overall or being able to come to that understanding that it just won't happen

I think most people are reluctant to create distance or cut people off but doesn’t genuinely doing so make it more likely for something more than friendship to happen in future?
