Why do some people use online dating platforms to insult others?

Question

I joined an online dating site recently. Used some of my best photos which are good quality photos I used on my professional camera, but since I’ve been on it (only a week) I’ve had to close my profile because I matched with a man and all he did was insult me from the get-go.

The first message he sent me he called me a clout chaser (no idea what that meant so I had to look it up) and it means someone who is obsessed with gaining status and popularity which I’m not trying to do, I’m just on the dating site to date people and find someone I want to be with. Then when I challenged him on that he said that I am insecure and use filters in my photos, that I look like a tranny, and said that no wonder I am single at 28 years old because no one would want me. I looked at his photos and he looked very unhappy. There was one mirror selfie where he wasn’t even smiling so I don’t know why he felt room to insult me or my photos.

Why did he match with me just to insult me?

He was just boosting his ego at best. Likely he was trying a spot of negging.

You should have hit him back with "No wonder you're getting zero matches - you've the personality, and charm, of a plain pretzel".

These sorts of trolls are on every platform and they are easily defeated with charm. You know your value and you know something like that is not what you're after. Just move on and be happy you've met a a troll and can spot your next ones by their opening lines.

I don't really blame them. Everyone in online dating is horrible. The trolls are just more honest about it. And some of those people are just hackers using someone else's account.

first off you don't need to close your profile, just use the block or report buttons, preferably both

second, how is your actual PROFILE. not your pictures, your PROFILE, your pictures get us to look, your profile makes us message you. if your profile is blank you are only going to get guys who have nothing to say except that they want sex

You really don't need to delete your profile but with online trolls that talk smack all you have to do is delete and block them. From what you explained is the guy is a narcissist talking about himself in 3rd person. People like that are toxic and it's best not responding to them and just block them
