Am I pushing my boyfriend away?

Me and my Boyfriend are still in high school, we met on a summer volleyball team recently and just started going out. Personally I really don’t like hugging or affection in front of people like teammates or schoolmates, to me it’s just awkward and uncomfortable.

But he does as he always says he wants to kiss me during or after practice. When we went on dates in public I don’t really care but I feel like at certain settings you have to be professional. I turned him away once and I don’t want it to seem like I’m pushing him away? What should I do?

You need to simply have a conversation about your boundaries with him. That is all it takes. He needs to understand that makes you uncomfortable and something you don't like. You are allowed to feel that way and not want to be overly affectionate in front of others. That is called a preference and something you are entitled to.

Communication is key in any relationship. That is one of a few of the most important things. Without being able to communicate, he won't know you don't like that. That isn't really his fault for not knowing if you don't tell him.

Another important part of any good relationship is respect. That is what should come from him after you tell him that you don't care for public displays of affection. He should respect that and stop doing what makes you uncomfortable.

Simple as that. Best of luck but it really just comes down to telling him your feelings.

Professional is good. I think you are a proper lady. I wouldn’t do anything that you are not comfortable with. I wouldn’t if I was in your situation. Your call though.
