Why do we find long distance relationships more attractive than dating someone from the neighborhood?

Personally, it’s the fact that (where I live) everybody knows everybody. They’ve either gossiped or started drama somehow.. and most of the times people just get tired with what they see everyday. I grew up in a small town even though I was born in a large city, and let me tell you.. the dating options were so minimal it’s impressive. Everyone knew everyone, everybody dated everybody and I made the smart choice of dating nobody from there. It’s exhausting because people right away knew your history your past your experiences and gossiped like crazy. And when it’s someone knew, they can’t find dirt on them or you and try to split you guys up because now your relationship is intimate.. only you two make the choice whether to stay with each other or not once you guys get to find out for yourselves about your past and from your own mouths. Privacy is super important. That’s why a lot of people (including myself) like the idea of having long distance relationships, where they’re in a different state/city/country because people won’t get into your business and meddle into your relationship privacy. So, that’s my take on long distance.

I wouldn’t mind dating someone in my neighborhood. It’s just most people don’t have luck. For example my neighbors are mostly women.

I’d like to move to your neighbour hood what is it? I live an neighbour hood (silicon valley) where men count significantly is more than woman. Anywhere I go, bar or social places, the ratio goes like 5 men for every woman.

That's usually a thing with women and not with men. Men would date the girl next door. Women just want men they don't have a chance of getting. That's women's psychology.

It's not the distance people find attractive but the person themselves (sometimes it's our preconceived image of the person rather than the person themselves).

I don’t feel that way. Some people do. Personally. I like to get to know someone a little bit first.

I don't, but I suspect that for some it grants the opportunity to have multiple people as LDR's, whereas a local SO would make that more challenging.

I don't know about you, but I don't. I don't like long distance relationships. I guess it's because it "supposedly makes the heart grow fonder"

I traveled to a country for the first time and the women were so nice. I think I like their accent, their personality, their customs. I was always anxious to get home and read their emails and chat online.
