Why do people say looks don’t matter in dating when they actually do?

It sickens me when people say looks mean nothing as other quotes (it’s what’s on the inside that matters, personality is all that matters, etc.) That’s total BS.

Looks do matter. They’re just not everything that matters. Looks matter for one that’s the first thing that matters. Without physical attraction it’s like a cake without icing. As in a cake, looks are the icing and personality is the cake. You don’t just eat the icing alone nor the cake alone. Both the icing and the cake matter as looks and personality both matter equally. Looks matter regardless and that’s the truth.

Looks do matter, but less than perfect looks are easier to overcome than a troublesome personality. Looks matter less than personality, they don’t mean nothing, but they also don’t mean everything either.

I’d rather be with a woman who is a 9/10 personality and 1/10 in looks, than the other way around. Style choices can help out less than perfect looks but nothing is going to overcome a horrible personality, not even sex.

Im at an age where they matter less and less for me. But tbh, I don't know how much of it is my age or the fact that Im just growing more desperate. It really depends, yes we look at appearance first, but it could change depending on their attitude. The moment someone is a dick/ bitch, they're ugly no matter what. But se times, looks really don't cut it, some people really are too ugly, no matter what their personality is.
