My boyfriend is always critical of me and says I'm dumb. Like if I tell him I want to do something he'd laugh and say there's no benefits in that. If I tell him about my phone plan he'd ask me questions for quick I told him I pay 200 for both me and my mom he's like do u even know how phone bills work? Like he's always finding ways to put me down I've addressed it and it's never changed. I'm wondering, why is he like this instead of being happy and supporting me he says I don't do what he says and that im dumb and he's really smart he always full of himself. He acts like noone is better then him. Can u tell me why someone acts this way, it's ridiculous and what are some ways I can deal with it without breaking up? Ik people go directly to say break up but that's not how relationships work and I also know I can't change him is there any thing I can do?

Well... the thing is this. Annoying flaws and disrespect are two totally different things. I've been where you are and I paid the price like hell. Don't EVER get putting up with disrespect confused with sticking by that person through "thick and thin". Love is hard, but it does not hurt nor should it. When you let one thing slide a million other things will happen. Don't make excuses for a disrespectful man ever. Demeaning you and insulting your intelligence is disrespectful and you basically said it without saying it--he thinks he's better than you. That's a relationship you never need to be in.

Ask him directly next time he calls you dumb : “why are you dating a dumb girl if you are so smart”? He needs to be challenged in the moment so that he knows you can keep him accountable. If you aren’t able to challenge him when he isn’t acting well then learn how to.
