If they ask i tell them and quite often let them know who am chatting to or what some one else said if its relevant. Sometimes the content of what you can say needs to be private, not always of course but sometimes we have close friends who trust us with things they want to confide in you.
Its a form of gaslighting and quite common for the guilty party to blame the innocent, e. g. my mum took my dad back 5 times and on the 6th time she didn't and he said she was unreasonable and made out it was her fault!

I think if you're together with someone in a committed relationship there should be an expectation that you will need to provide your partner with phone password and vice versa and be an open book. If you have nothing to hide, then why protest? If you have something to hide, let your partner see. They have invested in the relationship so why can't you?
It's just one of the many hypocrisies of today's selfish and promiscuous society. All I can say is if you are going to want a partner who's not going to protect his phone all the time, you're going to have to specify that at the beginning of the relationship. Have high standards for yourself, reject and avoid everyone below those standards, and eventually what you eat out the hoes.
Everyone is entitled to their privacy and others should respect that privacy. That being said, trusting partners shouldn't have an issue with telling the other who they are texting.

Violation of trust on either party is wrong. End do not justify the means.
Everyone is entitled to their privacy yea. If you can't trust your partner don't be with them, I would almost say it's actually more toxic to have so little trust in your partner than it is to cheat.
It's super wrong. Would you like it if your boyfriend did the same thing?
No, social secrets and cheating are both enders of relationships.
