Is two months worth crying over someone?

my boyfriend and his friend pranked me that he left to another state to be with another girl. They played it so well i thought it was true and i cried. We've known each other for two months and i told one of my friends about how i cried about the prank. She gets mad at me and tells me i had no reason to be crying over him because i've only knew him for two months.

Anyone who plays a prank on their relationship partner is immature and not worthy of being your partner.

Let me tell you a story...

In August 2001, I got married. For my "honeymoon", my wife and I were given a weekend at a bed and breakfast in Saratoga NY. This included going to a spa and getting a massage.

I did get a massage - from a dude. I was not fond of that.

Anyway, my wife had a coworker at the time named Tammy. Her husband was Mike and Mike was a local radio personality - the sidekick on one of those "morning zoo" shows.

So, they decided to play a prank on me from my wife's office. Mike pretended to be a pollster from the spa company asking about my experience. Mike knew everything because my wife told them. Quickly, the questions became a bit uncomfortable and I realized this had to have been Mike.

I was not happy about this.

My wife used a deceptive tactic on me once before we were married, but I let that slide because she was insecure. I didn't like being pranked though. I didn't like being made a fool. I DIDN'T LIKE THAT I COULD NOT TRUST MY WIFE.

I let my wife know when we got home.
She said she and her family played pranks often. (I am my wife's 3rd husband; she is my only wife.)
I said "I don't care. You are with me now."
Now, I am an easy-going guy and let her have her way on almost all things, but I laid down the law here.
"Don't you EVER play a prank on me again. EVER! If you do that, this relationship is instantly over and I will leave you with no hope or chance whatsoever of getting back together. Is that clear?"

She's never pranked me again.

I was 38 at the time and I didn't have formulated in my head what I can now express what I couldn't then.
Learn this lesson:
INSTINCTIVELY, MEN NEED FROM A WOMAN LOYALTY AND TRUST MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE - EVEN SEX. ONCE A WOMAN IS DISLOYAL AND THAT TRUST IS VIOLATED, SHE BECOMES ___W_O_R_T_H_L_E_S_S___ TO HIM. THE RELATIONSHIP IS OVER even if you are still technically together. He will then seek out your replacement.

In your case, get rid of this guy.
Women equally deserve loyalty and trust even if they don't have that same instinctive need like we do.
You don't deserve that; you deserve a man who will support you, protect you, and otherwise be there for you.
Pranking indicates this is not the case or, at best, indicates immaturity.
You deserve better and shouldn't have to wait for him to grow up.
He needs to go.

It's a colossal waste of time. What EXACTLY are you crying about? Do you even know? The fact that you got fooled and feel stupid? The fact that your dream didn't work out because someone else is an asshole? Really - you got played, so learn from it. You should be over your "grief" by now.

Remember - every second you spend crying or hurt means he succeeded and he continues to take power away from you. He continues to be in your head and cause strife in your life, which was his plan. YOU are the only one who stop that.

Honestly, that's a valid reason to cry. Your friend probably (rightfully) doesn't like him and doesn't see any reason for you to be attached. And honestly? If he's pulling these kinds of pranks at your expense and it makes you react like this, it might be time to call it anyway. That kind of stuff really just adds up after a while and if he doesn't know how to react to boundaries you set about it, then it's only going to get worse.
But you have every reason to cry over thinking that your boyfriend that you're invested in left you for someone else like you don't even matter.
