Do guys like it when girls text first?

So should a guy always be the first to text good morning? shouldn't it work both ways? He shows interest, texting Me through the day, talking about his day, etc and even asked me to play the game with him. It seems he's trying to let me into guys world of what he likes, but at times goes cold. I don't know. I'll text good morning or good night first but, shouldn't he do it as well? Just curious. Im new to the dating scene since being divorced.

So, we talk (not established if it's boyfriend girlfriend type thing).. he texts throughout the day , asking me what I'm doing, will talk about his day calls etc etc. But at times he goes cold like he's not interested. Calls me baby and stuff (which that don't mean anything)... but not sure why he acts un interested at times.. I try to not text him first to see if he will, and sometimes he does..
