I am in a tricky situation and looking for advice?

Hello everyone,

I thought I would come on this site and ask for some advice since I’m not quite sure what to do. I am going to share some background context.

There’s this guy I have known about for over four to five years now. I know of him due to some extended family members knowing his family very well. I have never met him in person but my extended family members think I already have which makes the situation tricky. I have tried to direct message him in the past but always ended up un sending it cause I get nervous. I’ve heard amazing things about him and think we would be an amazing fit, but then I look at his Instagram account which is private by the way and get anxious because I feel like I don’t stand a chance even though I think I do in away. I want to direct message him and this time actually leave it but I’m scared my extended family members will find out or he will think I’m weird and block me 😓 I really want this to work help!! I was thinking about messaging him this but wasn’t quite sure: hey we got a lot in common and I’d love to get to know you better! How dose that sound and what should I do? I really want this to work but don’t wanna be creepy or look crazy since I’ve had my eye on him for along time now
