Have you ever thought you were the exception to the rule?

I'm watching He's Just Not That Into You and I realize that I was Gigi's character in college. I was hoping and praying that this guy would like me (even though I knew deep down he was the bad boy type though he played the part of an innocent church boy musician for a while) and I would be the exception just because we were having a lot of sex and lo and behold he never ended up liking me. I was an idiot back then but I just thought if a guy sleeps with you a lot eventually he will want to be with you but boy was I wrong. He also showed signs of possessiveness at times so I just thought he was coming around to the idea of us but I found out the hard way that just because someone can be possessive over you doesn't mean they want to be with you.

So I was the rule and not the exception. The movie although not my favorite, had some good points. My girlfriends tried to make it seem like at first he would eventually like me and then they tried to make me feel better by saying that he might just be emotionally unavailable when really it was just that he didn't like me like me. Why do friends especially girls do this? Why do they egg stuff on that they know will never happen for you?

This can be answered by guys too because guys have girls that string them along as well.
