Hookup asking about past relationship?

I met this guy via dating app. We hung out then back to his place. After we did it, we cuddle and out of the blue he started asking questions about my past relationship. I answered half heartedly because tbh I dont feel comfortable with the question. Is it normal to ask? Tbh I dont have many hookups, so I am not really sure what to expect. Having perspective might help.

I only ever ask those things if I’m looking to get into a relationship with the person. But some people just like asking questions about people’s pasts for fun. It could’ve been just “pillow talk”.

I dont mind cuddling but then he started to kiss my forehead. Thats when I pulled back and sleep on my side. I wasn't sure if I get the intention right. Is it common to make a hookup clear before sex? To put into context, it was his idea to come back to his place.
