+1 yNote: I am a Christian and this is directed toward those who are of that faith.
I think a definition of Christian would be helpful...
Matthew 7:22 "Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ "
Matthew 21:28-32
“What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’
“‘I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.
“Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but he did not go.
“Which of the two did what his father wanted?”
“The first,” they answered.
Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.
Luke 10:25-37
"On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
“What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[a]; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b]”
“You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
Matthew 7:16-20
You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them.
Galatians 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
Against such there is no law.
There are many who claim Christianity as an insurance policy. Someone claiming to be a Christian is no guarantee of faith. The evidence is in their life, not their claims. I know this from observing many Christian couples whose marriages have imploded due to the exact same things that we claim to be immune to. Hypocrisy is rampant in the church and people can be very good at speaking Christianese.
Our lack of grace in evangelicalism is a black mark that cannot be erased, even if we spent the rest of our lives in repentance for how we have condemned those who we are called to love. May God have mercy for how poorly we have represented Him.
Now, in reference to the whole "unequally yoked" thing. Oh, boy...
Context. Paul is dealing with the unfaithfulness of the Corinthian church, idolatry, and their arrogance. There is nothing about marriages in that context. Nada. It's referring to the practices and traditions of the Greeks in Corinth at the time and how the early church was being influenced by it.
https://www.bibles.net/book-background/background-of-2-corinthians/
1 Peter 3:1 and 1 Corinthians 7:12-16 deal specifically with marriage between a Christian and non-believer. Timothy's mother was a Jewish Christian married to a Greek non-believer. Now, this is not to justify dating non-believers, because that is a huge potential conflict if it moves toward marriage and I would strongly advise against it for that reason. But it isn't as cut and dried as many people think.
Just my perspective...

That’s exactly right. Especially because sone people can be one way but show their true colors later.
Not saying there isn’t ‘good’ people who are lost. But that doesn’t mean you have to spend your life witn them
+1 yYeab for me. Equally yoked is important. But you HAVE to be careful. There are people who claim to be Christian’s who aren’t, there are also double minded, hypocrites, and the list goes on who maybe believe bur don’t follow the Bible.
Just because someone claims to be Christian doesn’t automatically make them a good person. Especially not someone to spend your life with. So be VERY careful.

"Democrats?" You mean they're the worst possible dates other than we black lads?
- +1 y
@handsomelad70 Not at all. I am illustrating my tolerance for those with whom I disagree.
- +1 y
Oh. I sorta wondered about your meaning.
- +1 y
And you’re wiser now. Right? LOL
- +1 y
@handsomelad70 I couldn’t ever date a woman whose a democrat. There are some nice democrats. But a lot of them are losing their minds

You know being equally yoked is important. Nobody wants a woman also whose gonna kill their baby.

@Summeroflove You know I'm 69 years old and not concerned about having a baby.

@Summeroflove Hopefully.

+1 yI don't mind dating someone from another faith as long as they respect my beliefs. My ex was a strong Atheist and used to belittle me, say hurtful things, and make fun of religions and it made me doubt if I'd be able to be with someone with contrasting beliefs. I think dating another Christian would be easier because of the same values/beliefs, but like I said earlier as long as there's mutual respect and understanding I'm okay.

Yeah but being equally yoked is important
2.3K opinions shared on Dating topic. Yeah. It's the best way to be because if that other person becomes serious and later a spouse it reduces a lot of complications and friction. It's like asking, "I want to go on a lot of vacations but I ONLY like traveling by car, should I get with someone who ONLY likes to travel by airplane." Just the stakes are way higher down the road.
10 Reply988 opinions shared on Dating topic. As a Christian who doesn't practice religion I wouldn't mind dating agnostics or atheists.
I have tried dating girls from other religions who were practitioners but it never worked out
The second I say I'm a Christian who doesn't really practice they start trying everything to convert me to their religion which is beyond annoying.
If I'm ever gonna turn to god again it would be through Christianity and nothing else.
They can't understand that.10 Reply4K opinions shared on Dating topic. No… It’s a big wide world out there. Just bc you’re the same religious grouping doesn’t mean you’re both ethical in the same way or share the same mode of thinking beyond the church walls. You need someone who can see all of reality the same way as you do….

True. There are people who claim to be Christian but don’t follow God at all. So. Dindinf someone whose genuine is important

927 opinions shared on Dating topic. Yes. If the relationship get's serious enough to get married, the bible is clear that you should not be unevenly yoked.
I also says if you are single when you become a Christian you should stay that way because having a wife and family takes time away from a man doing God's work.11 Reply- +1 y
Yeah I agree. Everyone is different as far as dating. Having someone whose a good Christian can help boost your faith. But again it depends.
People who aren’t equally yoked are in for a bad road ahead

+1 yI am Christian.
The last Christian girl I was with... terminated me because I don't go to church often enough.
(I'm happy -though- that her belief gives her stability)
As I live in a mostly non-Christian environment, I prefer to get laid by anyone who is agreeable to me :D

+1 yNot exclusively no, but I would prefer if she would convert in time, however if she respects my beliefs and has the qualities of someone I'd date then why not?
It would be a deal breaker if she wouldn't agree to have our children baptized in Catholic Church though.
10 Reply As a Christian man, I would not. The difference between moral and ethical practices can be too vast. Granted, Christians are not a parade of Saints, but at least they have the proper faith and try. Others are best avoided.

+1 yI didn't choose to be a Christian... so I don't follow the rules :D
30 ReplyYes, since I am a Christian, I do not think I can be in love with someone who has another religious belief. I go to church regularly every Sunday and we have a prayer session on Wednesdays, I agree with all of them.
30 Reply1.3K opinions shared on Dating topic. Yes because I date with the prospect of marriage and I don't want to argue with my partner about certain values I consider fundaments.
