Depends on the chemistry and connection. If it's strong enough, maybe possibly the first date. But I would never recommend people doing it on the first date unless that connection is strong.

There is no minimum number. If the two of you hit it off on the first date, you can sleep together after the date. That has happened once or twice in my life. Most of the time, though, it's about 3 dates or longer. I dated a woman once who had a three-date rule: if we didn't have sex by the end of the third date, we must not have a connection and there was no point in continuing to date.

I never related to any number of dates, that specific ritual seems to belong to US culture? I'm not sure. Anyway, as things are at the moment, sleeping with someone, well, it takes months to reach this event.
