Is a two year age gap in high school ok?

I recently started talking to a guy two years older than me. I think we're both into each other, but there are a few complications. The first is the age gap. Neither of us have a problem with it, because we are worried how other people may view it. The second is my parents. They don't allow me to talk to guys, and they would absolutely flip if they knew I was talking to a guy two years older than me. Everything is going very well with him, but we can never hang out because of my parents, so we can only communicate through text. This also makes actually talking at school much harder and more awkward. I'd just like some options/advice.

when people are babies, there’s a huge difference between a 3 month old and a six month old. When they start playing little league sports, a half year difference in age shows


In high school, 2 year age difference is VERY substantial. Age difference is a big deal when we’re young and as we age, believe it or not, 12 year age difference and you cannot even tell.


What is important to realize is high school isn’t the end of the world. It’s just your oyster right now. It’s also extremely important to keep reminding yourself your parents are looking out for you. It may seem controlling. It may seem outdated. It very much may be unwelcome. But please don’t strain your relationship with your parents over a high school boy


Boys in high know nothing, that’s the truth


I would highly recommend that you try and keep your feelings in check. Keep it casual. You know a guy, that’s all. you could have very well have made a friend in high school that you’ll keep in touch with for a very long time. You’ll realize in the future it was the first of many crushes, in high school and beyond


If you don’t believe me, write your future self a letter about how you’re feeling and your frustrations with your parents and open it just next year. I was going to say in 20 years time but remembered how time warps for the young


Don’t worry about the age gap. Don’t go behind your parents’ back. Don’t overthink things. And don’t get attached to a high school boy who is 2 years older.


I know we’re built emotional and i know it’s hard to not feel things. I just have to give you that advice to be truthful


Be careful, be good, love yourself, and make yourself proud

Okay first thing is you're just going to have to be honest with your parents explain to them that he's just a friend if you can't do that


Then the last thing you want to do is start sneaking around because that's just going to lead one thing to another to another so

Hate to say it but I think you're just going to have to wait I mean you have to at least approach your parents to say look I don't want to sneak around I don't want to lie to you I'm trying to be responsible here I want him to be my friend and I need you to okay that and see what they say they'll look at you in a new light if you do that they'll know that you're not trying to cheat lie hide anything and they will respect you for that and they will probably start giving you a lot more leeway you just have to be honest

Well I don’t know how old you are but if you’re under 18 your parents are still in charge of you. When you’re a adult you can do what you want but maybe they’re looking out for you.

Two years isn’t that bad but it depends. I think what matters is genuine attraction between two people. But under 18 developmentally two people can be in different places.

Forget other people. Your parents are just weird and overcontrolling.

The biggest problem with age gaps in high school is that high school ends for the older student while the younger still has a year or two of school left. The older student becomes a legal adult and moves on from high school to college while the younger is still a minor subject to their parent's control, and with typical school obligations. If the older student goes away to college, they will be immersed in an entirely new society with a much larger dating pool than high school. I don't believe college students should have an exclusive relationship with someone back home.
