The bottom line is, college educated people that think they are smarter then non-college educated are actually stupid.
I do have a college degree, thank-you GI bill. I think I have more experience then most people from everything that I have done in my life but I really do not consider myself to be any more intelligent then the average person. Yes there are some people that have special gifts but they are a small minority like Albert Einstien.
I do not have a “ college degree” what I have is 58 years of life, hardships joys, triumphs, defeats, I’ve lived my life my way and will continue to do so, that’s better than any wrapped up paid for education.
What passes for education is often nothing more than indoctrination. Universities have mostly turned into Cultural Marxist Indoctrination Campuses. At least the Soviet Union & other Communist bloc countries " re-educated " you for free , not several $£K per term !
With intelligence comes loads of arrogance. Its a shame colleges nowadays are less interested in actual education and more interested in woke Marxist indoctrination.
As Bruce Lee famously said, and this is one of my all time favorite quotes: "Arrogance is a fools idea of glory." In this case, those who wave around a college degree thinking they're better than everyone else are nothing but egotistical, self-righteous pricks.
Exactly what you said.. Cuz not all do that.. And there's nothing wrong with being proud of accomplishments or having a degree they worked hard for.. It's when they think they're better... My mom's older sister went to college, my mom didn't.. She lorded it over my mom so the time and treated my mom like she was stupid
I've always felt stupid and less than my compatriots that finished college/university, because I didn't. Like I wasn't smart at all. It wasn't until I was talking about it with my bfs nephews, that they said to me. "Auntie, you're one of the smartest women we know, don't ever tell yourself you're stupid, cause you're a heck of a lot smarter than 90% of people we know"
Generally, those of higher intelligence end up having degrees. Having said that, it’s definitely not always the case. I personally can’t stand the types that cultivate a superiority complex. I also can’t stand how we measure aptitude as a society within the professional work force. I rather self teach and save the money, but society unfortunately wouldn’t allow me to work in the field I am without these credentials.
My father was a college dropout, but in any conversation he had, with a college educated person, my dad owned him in an argument, or debate. He may have been a college dropout, but that doesn't mean he was uneducated. He was a good student, but had to drop out.
Exactly!! There's many reasons someone may not have gone to college or may have dropped out, especially for older people who grew up in a time where going to college wasn't pushed as much as it is today
The belief that an degree or a educational determine if we are smart or intelligent above average. Unfortunately. Those that are very smart/intelligent rarely finish that kind of education and majority of people going trough high education are the kind of humans that memorize facts that is shaped as like some that memorize appears to understand it. even many of them even believe they are.
That kind of education isn't structured to distinguish if it is memorized or if someone really understand it.
Education and intelligence are two completely different things and neither guarantee success or happiness in there own right, but both are commendable qualities if used in the right way... but more to the point did anyone need reminding Diana and Ringo Starr didn't go to college? lol
@dray995 It's late here, initially the auto correct changed my "two" to a "too" and I won't even tell you what it did to Ringo's surname! lol So I let the odd there, their and they're slip by! lol ;
Because they're teachers tell them they are. Schooling is not a measurement of intelligence, it's about how well you do what your told essentially. Obviously people who obtain doctorates and masters degrees are intelligent, but I'm not impressed by a a 2-4 year liberal arts program...
Well honestly you can easily get a masters while being completely average. There aren't even as many above average intelligent people as there are people with a master degree. Intelligence is normally distributed.
Yes you can be smart and not go to college but having a college degree does often make you more knowledgable on that specific topic than someone who has only learned about the topic via the internet. You are not overall smarter if you went to college.
while no stereotype is a one-size-fits-all slam dunk, I would say that many have some, or a lot of truth to them. The smartest man I ever knew in my life dropped out in the 8th grade.. That doesn't mean everyone else who dropped out in the 8th grade is smart..
I think your argument is inaccurate because people like Lincoln were self educated which is different than uneducated. Gates dropped out of college, but he certainly wasn't uneducated and didn't stop his education after leaving. He focused it on his craft.
Anyone can be intelligent, or stupid, and education has nothing to do with it, but it's not about intelligence, it's about ignorance. Uneducated people are ignorant of factors and variables that could help them reach a more intelligent conclusion when considering a topic.
It makes total sense that most of the modern day cultists and conspiracy nuts have a lower level of education collectively.
I guess my point is that everyone is different in the overall intelligence category, but when it comes to educated and stupid vs. uneducated and stupid, the educated person will generally be more functional in society.
Sure, there are many smart people that don't go to college, but in general, people who go to college are far more educated than those that don't. Many people, once the go to college realize how much they still don't know, as opposed to those who have not had that exposure.
Well, it’s quite simple. They’re associated school or more school with more intelligence. So, if you have a master’s degree then you must be more intelligent than someone with a bachelor’s and certainly more so than someone with no degree whatsoever.
these famous people dropped out of college because they knew they could be extremely successful without college.
If you dropped out of college, you would probably be working at mcdonalds.
this was something you weren't smart enough to think about.
if everyone could be successful without college, america wouldn't have $1.7 trillion worth of college debt.
Those who attended college should deserve more respect because it shows tenacity, ambition and hard work. For most schools in america, colleges are hard work. Its A LOT OF WORK.
I don't mean to offend anyone. But from my experience, people DO JUDGE your worth on your education. I have worked minimum wage job as a security guard and also have worked as an accountant at a large professional firm. Supervisors at professional firms give you much more respect than at minimum wage jobs. When I first walked into my first professional job, I was offered a $100 lunch with my supervisor, so that she could welcome me to the firm. When I worked overtime, they bought me dinner. If you were to work over time as a security guard, nobody will care if you're hungry.
During the hot summers when i worked as a security guard, building management would turn off the air conditioner in the front desk lobby where guards sit, if they know that there won't be any guests or visitors coming into the building. Apparently this is quite common amongst security guards where we sit in extreme heat or cold. Often times we would have to buy our own fans or heaters because employers simply didn't care about us. During summers when it got too hot, I asked my security company for a short sleeve uniform. They ignored all my requests.
McDonald's employees aren't treated well either. The reason why employers pay certain jobs minimum wage is because they know these workers don't know anything and they have absolutely nothing to offer. They look down on them and can treat them whichever way they want. You can't live on minimum wage, employers know that. Employers can certainly pay a dollar more, but they simply do not respect you enough to give you a living wage. This is in addition to you also having little to nothing to offer.
When I worked as a security guard, I used to have a client who would stick her nose in the air and get extremely offended if I didn't greet her well every morning. She expect a very grandiose hello and goodbye from me daily. If I didn't greet her hte way she wanted, she would basically show me no respect or look down on me.
When I was at a professional firm, if I didn't say hello to my bosses. My bosses will come straight over to greet me "good morning".
Supervisors are more respectful depending on what job you have. Minimum wage workers also tend to work in less professional environments which can lead to a lot of indirect abuse and maltreatment.
Its a cruel world out there. Many people like to say that your status / job doesn't matter. Just like how people say that looks don't matter in dating. TRUST ME, IT MATTERS.
Please tell all children to do well in school so they can be treated with respect when they get older.
You do realize that one not all people that went to college are able to get professional jobs after graduation? And that not "all" professional employees are treated good? And also there's people that didn't go to college and either own their own business or were successful in life anyways...
@Brainsbeforebeauty I'm speaking of the folks who do manage to get jobs after graduation. The only folks who can't get jobs after graduation, tend to be those who fooled around in college, lacked ambition and couldn't secure internships, didn't care to form important connections in college, or the majored in fields with high unemployment such as art , comedy or gender studies.
On average, if you have secured an internship , have some sort of work experience on your resume prior to graduation, you should be able to secure job after graduation.
I'm not speaking out of arrogance right here. I have been on both sides of the world. This is nothing but just pure honesty. Nobody is gonna walk up to your face tell you directly "You're an uneducated, piece of shit. " or "I am better than you". But you can sense that people may get a little stuck up around you or they act like you don't exist. Your clients may not always be kind or lenient towards you. Or they may seem to get offended easily by every tiny mishap (that doesn't even really matter). Or they really do not care to accommodate your needs.
"And that not "all" professional employees are treated good? "
The more "professional " you are, the higher level the "professional" places that you work. YOU WILL GET TREATED SIGNIFCANTLY BETTER. The more educated the individual, the better they typically get treated. Sure there are exceptions but this is the rule.
"And also there's people that didn't go to college and either own their own business or were successful in life anyways..."
You're speaking of the rare exceptions. The typical minimum wage worker with no skills or business acumen will have a very LOW chance of having a successful business.
Again you're making assumptions about people you're not qualified to make.. Not all people in low wage jobs have no skills or business acumen... And again, some people in lower paying jobs do have a college education... I worked for the fed gov and I interviewed a lot of people that went to college but got stuck in jobs that didn't cover their student debt. I know there's lots of successful college graduates. I also know there's lots of successful people, some who never even finished highschool, much less attended college.
All I am saying is, college educated people deserve more respect than those who never tried to further their education. College requires a lot of sacrifice of time, effort, money. You need to understand that these people have given up years of income/ money that they could have earned throughout their time in college, just so they can earn a degree.
Not only have they sacrificed the opportunity cost of attending college, they also put in an extremely high amount of effort, labor and time from their weekends (when they could be hanging out with friends) to study. Most colleges are not easy. Sure there are some colleges who let kids slack off but generally speaking, college is not a cake walk.
If someone has a degree, it doesn't necessarily mean they are extremely smart. But it does show that they are capable of working hard towards something. It also shows a respect for education.
Its absolutely sickening how people who chose to do nothing, lack ambition, never try to better their lives try to always claim that college educated people are never any "better" than them.
Professional people will always respect college educated security guard more than a GED McDonalds worker. Having an education is what puts you closer to the professional clique.
Well what else could a 20 yr old with no job experience or skills get? I’m not a 33 yr old accountant who can demand the salary he wants from his employer. I once had a mentor who is a CPA auditor at Wells Fargo who tells me that he has so much experience , skills , credentials and qualifications that he can demand To be paid a certain salary from his employer. He currently makes 150,000 a year. But he worked hard for so many years for this to happen. All the way from high school to college to getting his cpa and all of years years of experience, dropped out of masters program cus he was so busy juggling everything.
When I was working in security , I saw supervisors begging for a 1-2 dollar raise which they Already know is not gonna Happen. But it’s a dream they always have
I know I might sound cocky but it really isn’t. These are things that nobody will tell you about the real world. You only know this through life experience
When I was young , my parents used to tell me that the only way out of poverty is to get an education. And as I grew older , I saw this to be true. You’re not gonna have a future without an education.
So bashing folks who have an education or ignorant of education will only set you up for a life of struggle , envy, inferiority complex.
I have seen security guards who work 3 jobs just to pay rent and food. No time for leisure at all.
@Brainsbeforebeauty. By the time I was 20 years old when I First realized how difficult it was to make it to the High paying professional world, I Finally became aware that all those nice houses , nice cars that I saw on my neighborhood were all earned. They weren’t Things that were magically given Or handed to people. Every asset that you own is EARNED through hard work , intellect , etc. Nobody turns 18 and Immediately is given a house , luxury car. Nothing is free in life. It’s up to you to earn these assets. Your life , your choice.
People who say that money isn’t important Are simply denial. There is a Big cost to life. This gets especially big when you have children to support
@Brainsbeforebeauty. I am also not saying at all that not showing security guards respect is the right thing to do. It’s NOT the right thing to do. But unfortunately we live in a world where people are not very kind , judgmental. It’s not something we can change.
after all I have been through , I can pass this experience and wisdom on to my future children. So that they are aware of what life without an education would be like. First priority job of a parent should be instilling good values in children.
Sure you don’t always need an education to succeed but your chances of reaching those heights Without any education are drastically low.
Look for ways to respect education rather than to bash or mock those with college degrees. Bashing or mocking others will do absolutely nothing for you. It’s just a way for you to deal with your inferiority complex
Lol a College degree is cute but nothing special you certainly don't deserve respect for that. Maybe it was super hard for you but for most people it's just a training for a job they want to make.
I think it’s rude to belittle anyone just because you have had a higher level education unprovoked. However if it’s provoked (like if someone keeps calling you dumb and keeps treating you like you’re some type of idiot), then I say you have every right to flex that - or you can take the high road but I know if it were me, it’d feel good.
Going back on topic, college educated people are smarter in terms of books but that doesn’t always mean street smart. Plus lots of people barely even pass so
Sorry but being dumb has nothing to do with your education level. If I call someone an idiot and they say that they have a degree as a comeback then that just highlights their idiocy.
Meh. Going to university itself does not make you intelligent. However, the whole economic point of university is to credibly signal that you are smart. A good degree from a good program is a far better and more independent verification of your competences than any studying you do on your own. That is the value of education.
So going to college is a credible signal that you are smart. And considering that it is smart to go to college if you are smart, most people who are capable of going to college do go to college. Not going to college while you can go to college is simply economically irrational, given the massive earnings bonus on going to college (at the aggregate level).
So whilst going to college itself does not make you smart, the concentration of smart people is likely far higher in college and college provides a far better signal of your intelligence than any studying on your own
So is it reasonable to say that on average people who go to college are more intelligent than people who do not go to college? Probably yes. That is because not going to college while you can go to college is not that rational
The ones that feel they need to belittle others to "counter-boost" their OWN egos, are the ones who are really "uneducated"- uneducated in how to be a success in life. Great post
To be fair these are outliers who else makes $20,000 by 13? A college degree is objectively the smarter the decision. Not saying it’s not possible to succeed without one but you’ll have better chances with one
Cuz they are mad at themselves that they are stuck with huge student loans and the person without college isn’t , so to make themselves feel better about themselves, they act like they are smarter when in reality they aren’t
Life experiences make us smarter not just college education. Getting 1st class by sitting in the library all day everyday is foolish. But many employers have to choose candidates with the best scores. And what they end up with are troublemakers.

Sorry but what are you even talking about? The points you make is why the asker made this question to begin with.
But not everyone can go to college.. why don't judge people without knowing their story much less their level of intelligence
The ones that feel they need to belittle others to "counter-boost" their OWN egos, are the ones who are really "uneducated"- uneducated in how to be a success in life.
Great post
Thank you🤗🤗
To be fair these are outliers who else makes $20,000 by 13? A college degree is objectively the smarter the decision. Not saying it’s not possible to succeed without one but you’ll have better chances with one
That wasn't the point... The point is a college degree alone doesn't determine one's intelligence or lack of intelligence
Cuz they are mad at themselves that they are stuck with huge student loans and the person without college isn’t , so to make themselves feel better about themselves, they act like they are smarter when in reality they aren’t
Right
Life experiences make us smarter not just college education. Getting 1st class by sitting in the library all day everyday is foolish. But many employers have to choose candidates with the best scores. And what they end up with are troublemakers.
That can certainly be true
