Why is psychiatry treated as a real science?

All mental illness seems like BS to me. They just make up illnesses to sell pills to people and make money. I mean ADHD for example a guy getting distracted in class cause he's thinking about hot women; what straight male doesn't think about that. Is it really a science or a pseudoscience?

It seems to me that you are confusing psychiatry with clinical psychology, which is
understanding, preventing, and treating distress or dysfunction. Two totally different fields. In addition, psychiatrists are medical doctors, while psychologists have no such requirement.

Yes, but they still prescribe medical or they wouldn’t get the ADHD medicine. And you need MD to prescribe it. I didn’t know about clinical psychology.

Yes, only MD's can prescribe medications, and only psychiatrists are required to be medical doctors. Getting back on point: psychiatry is a medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of medical disorders such as bipolar disorder, dementia, and schizophrenia. As a rule, they do not deal with personality disorders or disfunction. If someone is being treated by a psychiatrist for a personality disorder such as ADHD- which you really seem wrapped up in, then there is more going on than meets the eye.

Alright I think you’re right. I’m ashamed to admit it though. I didn’t understand the difference. And do they really need medication? I don’t think some of them are really crazy. Maybe some with brain damage or a birth defect need medication. I’m not a doctor, so Maybe I’m wrong.

It is a real science. You need an MD to be one. It tries to link the physical with the spiritual in a way that counseling or psychology does not.

It’s very stigmatized and makes people’s lives even worst than before because they can’t join the army, it’s hard for them to get a job because everyone thinks they’re crazy. Even worst the ones that have been socially ostracized and their life’s are completely destroy can’t get euthanasia to end their suffering. If we’re going to treat it like physical illness, why not give the ones who are completely fucked, a chance to choose how they end their lives. Instead of letting them jump off buildings have some poor person have to clean them up off the floor? I mean we give terminally ill patients a choice, why give them a choice. I think it’s worst to keep them suffering on the streets and being humiliated or thrown in jail. Don’t you think?

@exitseven You see, psychiatry is bullshit. They label people and get them fucked for the rest of their miserable life. Why do we need them? They do more harm than good. A lot of jobs can easily find out about your therapy because they’re the ones paying for insurance. And on top of that if some you know from see you going into a building that is for crazy people you’re fucked.
