Why does my boss tell me one thing about my skill and the employee who is training me says another?

My take is.. that in the tv news business, no boss in a larger market is going to hire you to be on air talent before you pay your dues in a smaller market. Sort of like how you can't just go straight from 8th grade into having a college degree, even if you're a genius, without putting in some college level work somewhere.
And in any job the hiring manager has final say on who gets hired. It's odd for you to ask a hiring manager if you're good enough & then to challenge their response. They probably took it as rude or wasting their time or something.
Each as well as everyone of us have different writing styles & what your managing editor may like your news director may not.
It’s possible that the employee that’s training you and your boss are seeing different things that they like and dislike in your writing. It’s kind of tricky in writing because everyone has a different writing style and almost everyone will see different things because of thought processes too.
Don’t be too discouraged by your boss ❤️ I know it must be hard hearing that criticism from her, but on the positive side you must be doing something well if he likes it too. Keep pressing on and being you ☺️
