If you were offered $18,000 to leave your job abd you didn't have another one lined up, would you leave?

US dollar$
If I’m going to leave a job I always make sure I have a new job in hand before I leave the old one. As for $18,000 that’s peanuts & the only way I would go for a deal like that is if I were about to retire or I knew for a fact that my job were closing for good.
I am not sure. If the company wanted to pay me to leave the job would probably suck anyway. Maybe i would want more money if they wanted to get rid of me that bad.
Well i quit my job in March and i did just get an offer which pays way way more than 18k lmao but tbh, I’d take the 18k and continue jobhunting for a different opportunity
Well I declined my $16k bonus because I wanted to leave.. so if I could legally leave and be offered $18k, I'd be good with that lol.
Why did you want to leave?

Yes I'd take the money, I could find another job like the one I have so easily. I'd miss my crazy ass coworkers though
Hell yeah. I would be rehired within the hour if I quit and wanted to come back. Easy $18,000.
Sure, and then my job would probably beg me to come back so I could get rehired.
That would get me by for a year. I could find another job in a year.
Yes, even if you aren't working, at least it's not stressful.
Sure, but I'm already on sabbatical so it wouldn't be much of a hardship.
Yap.
I would take the money, put it into my savings and then find another job. 🤪
$18k? I couldn’t even live for a month on that much. I don’t think I’d leave for less than $500k
Where, do you live? Your expenses must be crazy.
Manhattan
Oh, New York must be expensive.
Very much so, my monthly mortgage is $9k
Can't survive on 18k per month, so I'll conservatively round up to say an annual wage of $250k might let you scrape by?
@nachosaresexy exactly that’d be just living expenses, no vacations or savings.
Why does anyone, or in this case someone like yourself, willingly choose to live in Manhattan if finances are that much of a constraint?
@nachosaresexy but I didn’t say that’s how much I make, that’s what $250k would mean. I make $400k base plus bonus.
Gotcha. So making half a mill annually allows for a comfortable living in NYC area.
So beyond the sh*tty weather, sh*tty traffic, sh*tty urban congestion in general... what's the appeal of living/staying there?
@nachosaresexy yeah I wouldn't live in that shithole for those prices. You could get a much higher standard of living elsewhere
@nachosaresexy lol so you’re a fan of NY?
Well, I could hardly believe you can meet so many interesting people anywhere else.
This city brings the most resilient and talented people in the world.
Also you have art, museums, restaurants, nightclubs like nowhere else in the world.
Just a few reasons.
New York is a shithole though lol.
Fair points.
And nope, not a fan of NYC, from my own limited experience and a close friend that lived there a while.
But this show is freaking great! https://www.hbo.com/how-to-with-john-wilson
Not for mediocre people for sure. As I said, only the most talented, strongest people make it here. But it’s not for everyone. So don’t feel bad.

Your last comment makes this show that much funnier. The disconnect between locals & reality.
Hahaha, that comment made me laugh.
Hell no. That's one months salary and benefits.
Yea that's 18k tax free dollars
Sure!
