I made a mistake with my college major?

Sorry for my English, I'm still learning

I'm studying history in a very good college, but I think it was not the best choice.

In my country, there are not many jobs for historians, yeah I could look for a job abroad but 1) it's not that easy and 2) it would be good for me to stay in my country.

I think I should have studied veterinarian medicine. In my country, vets have way more job options than historians, the college where I'm studying history is in a city 12 hours away from my hometown where I know nobody, but I could study to be a vet in a city just 1½ hours from my hometown, there's a ton of relatives in this city and I could stay in my aunt's house.

Don't get me wrong, I like history, I love it, but I now think it was not the best choice for a professional career. I also really love animals and like to look after them.

And other key factor is that I could be near my parents. My parents are in a stage of life where they feel lonely, and my siblings esentially just care for themselves and they don't care for our parents. Due to this, I always try to be close to them at least by a videocall or something, talking to them daily

But there are some problems, I'm not as young now, I'm 21, I'm no longer 18. My dad is paying for my college education, but in the case I tell him I want to switch for another major, he'd told me to forget about it, it would be different if my mom was paying for my college, as she would accept it with no problems. Plus, my family would judge for not finishing my degree.

I don't know what to do, I want to tell my mom about this, but I don't know if it's worth it.
