Is your salary (pay) determined by your job title or years of experience?

At my old job, I received two wage increases in the first year based on the number of hours I worked. At my current job, I have not received a wage increase from my employer in the four years I've worked here. This is because I haven't received a promotion, ie. my job title/responsibilities haven't changed since I was hired.

Have you asked? Merit raises are supposed to come around every [X Number] of years and you get a little evaluation to see the % raise.


If your boss doesn’t enter it into the system for whatever reason, you have to put on your big boy pants and go ask for it.

My current job is based on a job title. I got the job based on my years of experience though.
