    1. Make an elevator pitch for the inevitable first question of “So tell me a little about yourself.” Make sure to memorize it, include a snippet of your job history as it applies to the job you’re interviewing for, something personal yet work-appropriate that lifts up your image, and maybe if you’re local to the area or not.

    2. Take this pitch, alongside other things you want to make sure to include to talk about with your interviewer (strengths & weaknesses, skillsets and examples, questions to ask at the end of the interview, etc.) and write it down in a notebook/notepad

    3. Take the notebook/pad with you to the interview, you can use it as a cheat sheet but also to take notes. You’ll look focused and attentive as you make note of everything you want to see and know about the job.

    4. Don’t overdress, it can be a little awkward to show up in a 3 piece suit when your interviewer shows up in a polo and cargo shorts. Dress a step above what you would be expected to wear, ie if the norm is a polo and shorts, wear a button down and khakis, maybe a tie.

    5. Don’t be afraid to get friendly and tell a few stories, making a connection with the interviewer helps you get a job more than your actual resume and skillset. Especially if you can work in stories that relate to your job history and skillset.

    6. Don’t do the “weakness that’s actually a strength” bullshit, because they’re going to ask you to explain it. Instead, be honest about your weaknesses and talk about how you’re working to improve them.

    7. While nerves are normal, try to relax. Your interviewer is nervous too, they want to make sure they find the right candidate. All of the above tips can help them confirm it’s you 😉

Right before? Go to the bathroom and do some power poses. Our body and mind are connected and it's a two way connection. Just like a confident person will naturally stand straighter, so will a person who performs power poses feel more confident. It works.

If someone is looking to hire an employee, it's because they have a job that needs to get done, so if you have experience at another job, explain to them how you got your job done. If possible, bring statistics.

Let's say you are trying to get a job as a car mechanic, a job you have worked at before. Instead of saying "I have 3 years of experience", say "I fixed 953 cars in a 3-year period, placing me 3rd out of 21 technicians in volume, and had only 7 cars return, for a fail percentage of only 0.73%, ranking me 2nd out of 21 technicians." And if you can get revenue figures for the job you did, that's even better.

This sends a clear message: you understand that the company hiring you needs you to be profitable for the business, which either means you need to be responsible for a good amount of revenue, OR, if your position is cost-only, then that you are very cost-efficient. Too many potential employees have no connection between their job and the cost of their job to the business, so if you can demonstrate that you are constantly aware of your costs to the business and work to do your work efficiently (thus saving the business money, or generating them money), you are FAR more likely to be hired.

Be prepared for that common question, "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" Back when I had my first "formal" interview, that question was asked of me. I actually had never heard of that before, being asked. That was a long time ago though. I quickly thought of something that was fairly accurate of what I felt about my future.

  • Before a job interview, revisit the job description and match your skills to its requirements. Practice your responses to common questions, focusing on experiences that highlight your strengths. Dress professionally and ensure you're well-groomed. Arrive early to the location to prevent last-minute stress. Bring extra copies of your resume. Remember to maintain eye contact and express genuine enthusiasm. Prepare a few thoughtful questions to ask the interviewer, demonstrating your interest in the role and company. Finally, visualize success to build confidence as you enter the interview room.

I’m currently job searching too and the “Tell me about yourself” has always made me extremely nervous but now what I do is just tell my professional life story from the beginning from when I graduated high school to what I learned in college to what I did in my previous jobs to now. I found that very effective as it covers all bases of what a recruiter wants to hear and you don’t have to worry about missing any important information.

    CHEW GUM!!!

What are some tips you can give to someone right before a job interview?

It's almost a cure all for weight loss, addiction cessation & physical, emotional & mental health!!

EVERY military includes it in rations for a damn good reason!! I ALWAYS told my students to bring gum in test days! I left it free on my desk when I proctored SATs/ACTs!!

You can't lose, you can only win. Be honest (they will find out). It's as much you finding out if you want to work for them as it is for them to decide if they want you to work for them.

I hated interviews, didn't do all that well at them, got rejected for many jobs, but the moment I didn't care if I got the job, I got it.

    That said.

Take a diazepam. Be nice and loose, relaxed. Also remember that you might need a job, but they need an employee or you wouldn't make it to the interview, those ghost jobs have no need for that.

Actually be a customer or client of the brand - actually live and breathe the brand or company - actually like the company or brand - and actually dress like you'd in a formal dinner 😊😋😋

That interviewers are really looking at how how you respond and how well people will work with you. Not so much the requirements for the job. They already saw your resume.
