Some people are pariahs in their own time and only recognized for their achievements years after their death. Galileo was accused of heresy and Copernicus' books on a heliocentric solar system were banned by the Catholic Church.

The measurement of IQ is not simple and must generally be done by a trained clinical psychologist. As a result of this, it is expensive and time consuming to do this, and probably not necessary for most people it doesn't really matter with somebody's IQ is unless there is some question about their intelligence.
