It should of course be because of ability. However the whole idea behind DEI is that some groups are given less of a chance to display their abilty. Women being an examplee of a more humble group that tends to be worse at saying "Look at me, I am great at this stuff!".
That said I do think DEI is a stopgap type measure and was overall a poor implementation. Which is not to say that it does not address a real need and concern, it just does so in a very suboptimal way.
If they weren't good enough to keep the job, then that is on them
Jobs and promotion should be merit based only. DEI is legalized racial discrimination, end of story, end of discussion. I'm glad it's gone.
If you can't keep your job by your merits you don't deserve your job.
People act like it’s something horrible but it’s not. The fact of the matter is living in a society based on values of white supremacy has influence on its population whether we want to admit it or not. The point of DEI is to combat the unconscious bias that says white people are better than any other race in everything even though both candidates have the same qualifications and skills and personalities.
Qualifications and ability!!!
It's important to prioritize qualifications and abilities while ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion. In my experience, a diverse team fosters innovation and creativity, reflecting the diverse world we live in. Balance is key: hiring based on skills and talent, while also being mindful of DEI principles. This approach ensures a more dynamic and inclusive workplace where different perspectives contribute to success. Focusing solely on quotas may overlook some qualified candidates, but neglecting diversity can limit potential for growth and understanding.

Qualifications and ability. But that also means that if you work in - I don't know the medical field or something, and an Indian immigrant is better qualified than you for a position you wanted then you don't get to say that a foreigner stole your job either.
True but that Indian immigrant came from a rich family in India and was sent to all the best schools in the west b4 getting their medical degree, same with Chinese doctors. They aren't there through DEI. Its why people choose an Indian or Chinese doctor over an African American doctor.
All DEI does is ensure that POC get a fair chance at employment amongst other things. That doesn't mean they aren't qualified to do their job. They very well could be the best candidate, however, you could have a racist owner or hiring manager who would normally discriminate against someone just for who they are.
This idea that DEI just means give POC a job no matter what, really stems from a racist mindset that somehow POC are not as capable as non POC.
Actually what DEI means is that there is less competition because other applicants don't get to apply.
Demonstratively false. Anyone can apply.
White people don't get jobs marked for DEI recruits regardless of qualifications
No, they should get jobs because of qualifications and ability, but they also should not be discriminated against getting jobs because of their race and gender. Government and public employers should also make an effort to be reflective of the people they serve. God, conservatives who bitch about DEI are such sensitive whiny bitches
White people are being discriminated by DEI.
If you white Murican and unsuccessful then it ain't becuss of your skin but because you simply suck as a human being and no one wants you. It is NOT because blacks and women get it.
That's a pointless question that unfortunately gets answered incorrectly. Naturally the right person for the job is the most perfect fit, and your brother-in-law.
100% merit, talent, expertise and training.
What is between your legs and the ethnicity you were born should play no role.
I think qualifications are the most important.
Depends. Would you rather people get jobs because of DEI or just pay them welfare?
Have to pay the people who didn't get jobs welfare
Qualifications and ability only
