Germanic þ changed in other Germanic languagec in z, t, d, th, dur, ... while in English it just changed just in th.
English can be tough, though through tough thorough thought it can be thought as a thoroughly thoughtful language.
In old English
Englisc mæg bēon þrāhheort, þēah þurh hearde geþōht hit mæg bēon geþōht swā þurhwuniendlīce geþōhtful sprǣc.
I like a bit of etymology and can usually grasp the thread back in time but that sentence is beyond me.
@purplepoppy maybe try eating some weird mushrooms... probably how we got the language changes in the first place.
I gave it to Google Gemini to interpret.

RESPONSE:
That's a fun and challenging tongue-twister! 😄
Here is a simplified version of the passage:
"English can be difficult, but with careful and complete thinking, it can be considered a very well-developed and profound language."
I've given some thorough tough thought, to your thoughtful question, though I was thoughly bemused, why you've thought English can be a tough language, considering by giving some throughly thoughtful thoughts, you thought English to be a thoughtful language.
I think you have too many thoughts to think through on this question. That's gotta be tough!
The sentence is a clever play on the complexity of English, showcasing an array of homophones and similar-sounding words. It's a testament to English's intricacies, emphasizing that while it can be challenging, it also offers depth and richness. The sentence itself is a tongue twister, highlighting English's playful and complicated nature.

Trying to read that made me cough. Though I have some thoughts...
I read it more than once although I struggle to read these days. It's like I have lead in my head that prevents me taking the lead.
Does that help?
there are other letter combos you can display a variety of pronunciations for (although this one is pretty exhaustive) omb comes to mind... tomb, bomb, comb.
Ahh English, the bastard child of multiple tongues. Feels like ann elocution / enunciation excercise for drama class.
English is such a difficult language for non-native speakers. The "ough" is bad enough, but then throw in heteronyms. Read (I will read that book. I read that book.), wind (The wind is blowing strong. I forgot to wind my watch.), close (Please close the door. Don't stand so close to me.), live (I live in a house. The news report just went live.) and that is just for starters.
There's a famous drinking street here called Wind Street that causes the same confusion
Excellent sentence... totally impossible for someone with a lisp to say. 🙈🙉🙊
Not hard to understand, but shoves in my face one of many reasons I hate English. Most other languages are just as bad though.
Nice linguistic example, similar to a French sentence: un chasseur sachant chasser sans son chien de chasse est un bon chasseur ;0)
Twenty dwarves took turns doing handstands on the carpet
I can't help but notice a numerous number of words that start with the letter T.
Should be on the final exam for non English speakers taking an English course.
I think its tough to have a thorough thought process without thoughtfully thinking through such a thorough language.
Hard to read lol. Not that hard to say though if you say it slowly.
Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo.
It's a grammatically correct sentence.
Maybe to an American.
I'm reminded of "The Goose Steps Out", with Will Hay. Genius.
every language has their tongue twisters. English isn't special in that xD
messed up. Us Irish speak English thanks to you conquering us. My granny was English and I had 2 great grandads who were English.
that's tuff...
I don't know English, so I can't comment.
I think my head aches.
Yoi have too much free time!
I had to read that twice.
It's a perfectly cromulent sentence.
Give me 100$ and i'll tell you 😁
Say that three times fast.
I'll try not to think about it :P
I wish we could all just switch to Japanese.
