I wanted to be a doctor but I sucked at science.
What did you want to be in middle school and why didn't you become it?

Trending & News In middle school, I was going to be an elementary school teacher, like my mom. When I was in high school, I spent a day with my aunt, an RN, and decided I wanted to work in the medical field. I was accepted to the Medical College of WI and was determined to be an MD but realized it wasn't the path I wanted to go. I ended up becoming a nurse practitioner. I don't have the extra zero at the end of my paycheck but I was able to have a life and not be embroiled in constant schooling, internships and residency... I'm very happy with my decision.
I'm glad you are. That's great! š
I wanted to be an actress, and a dancer/choreographer lol. I didnāt become an actress, but I did end up in a dance group later on when I was like 18 and we performed shows. It was super fun and I got to travel a bitā¦
That does sound like a lot of fun. I never had the coordination for it but I've always wanted to dance as well.
I wanted to be a dentist ā despite the fact that I'm afraid to go to the dentist... I wanted to help people who want to fix their teeth pain-free (by using anesthetic).
But I didn't pass the locomotor skill test (Important for using the dental drill).
I'm sorry you didn't pass.
You probably would have been a great dentist!
Thanks, it was a long time ago, but I still think about it sometimes.
You're welcome.
and thank you for the MHO :)
You're welcome! š
In middle school, I was going to be a professional baseball player 😁 In high school, I fell in love with aviation when we moved next door to a commercial airline pilot my freshman year. I currently fly for a small commercial carrier in the US.
Good for you! Many of us don't set out to do what we said we would do in high school but you did! That's awesome!
Well, obviously I set the bar high by expecting to be a MLB player lol Yeah, like that was gonna happen.
Lol yeah but at least you're doing one thing you set out to do in school. I can't say I did at all. I went from a doctor to a teacher and didn't become either.
I think what helped me, was having my neighbor constantly inspiring me to achieve my dream. Was anyone in your family a doctor or teacher that you could feel inspired by?
Nope. No one I can think of was so that's probably why.
I'm the first one to go off to college
That's too bad, @Simslover92 I mean, there's a reason the children of doctors become doctors or children become teachers if one of their parents is a teacher. My brother became a carpenter, because of my dad... I happened to feel a real connection to my neighbors job and I don't know what I'd be doing if it wasn't for him. You seem so sweet and smart, that you could still accomplish a dream you have. You're definitely not too old.
Thank you. That means a lot. My dream now is to be a successful author and I'm hoping I can complete my book by the end of next year. My mother was a writer as well but never got into publishing anything. I hope to actually do it.
In middle school, I aspired to be a scientist because I was fascinated by discovery and innovation. However, as I grew older, I realized my strengths lay more in understanding people, communication, and strategic planning. This led me to pursue a career in business and education, allowing me to leverage those skills to help others find their paths. I discovered that guiding people in their educational and career journeys provided immense satisfaction and aligned with my natural abilities.
I think you'd be more suited for a job in AI. š¤£
that's called AI hallucinating...

I wanted to be a teacher, but that was just because I thought a job with summers off would not only be easy, but pay well enough that I wouldnāt have to worry about funds during those 3 months. I was painfully wrong on that
yep me too, I spent summers recovering from the summer term, teaching is an extremely demanding job, I lasted two years but still miss it,,,
In middle school/high school I wanted to be an comedy actress/writer but never took any steps to take it serious like actually acting in any school plays or anything. I went to college a little bit with the intention of being a vet but covid and other issues screwed that all up. I know I could still do it online and maybe someday I will since my rural area can always use vet services.
Other than that I decided to just be the most awesome me I could be and that seems to be working out pretty good most days. 😊
I always wanted to be a professional studio musician until I found out about all the hoops you must jump through to get to that point. I got a full-time office job at 16 while doing a business course at night and have been working in offices ever since. No regrets though; it is what it is.
I wanted to be an "inventor". The thing about being an inventor is, I still can be. It doesn't require credentials. Just an idea and the willpower to make that vision come to life.
The only thing holding me back is laziness. I have ideas, but it seems like a ridiculous amount of effort to make those visions come to life. I also don't quite understand the manufacturing process
Well, even before middle school I couldn't wait to be a Mom. That started when I was 6 years old. I just knew. But I had many years to wait until I was older and married first.
I got married at age 20, and finally became a Mommy at age 23.🙂 I still love being a Mom.ā¤ļø
I was the same. Doctor. Iām a biology undergrad rn, but Iām just going to PA, which is close. It doesnāt require med school only med related post graduate.
That's really good Abby. I'm sure you'll be really great in that!
To answer the same question for @Circushowcowboy, he wanted to be normal sized in middle school. He didnāt become it because he didnāt eat his vegetables.
Lol Abby š
Even when Iām not here I get bullied šš

i was working 30+ hours a week in high school to support myself and my dad, had a shitty home life, mental health, and just a lot of other stuff going on. its sucks bc i was really invested
A soldier but in the end I decided not to because both my cousin and my father were deployed in war zones when I was old to join and it would have killed her if I had joined and got deployed as well.
So in the end I chose not to for my families sake.
I wanted ot be an astronaut It was not just a kid;s dream either. I went to college on an Air Force ROTC scholarship with the intention of becoming a pilot and hopefully an astronaut. After freshman year I want ot basic training and failed an eye test and ws dropped from the program
All my life I wanted to be a building contractor. My ex-wife hated the idea and wouldn't allow it. After we divorced I became a contractor and it was the best years of my life. I sold the business and retired so I can travel full time.
Something with technology⦠an engineer or similar etc. I guess I succeeded. 🤔🙃
That's good that you did. I didn't even come close lol
Since I was very young, I wanted to be an engineer, and that's exactly what I became. I went to college, earned an Engineering Degree, and I've had a long and interesting career as an engineer.
I wanted to be a musician , but my band decided to pursue other things , so I ended up doing other things as welll even though I love playing music
I wanted to be on air talent, like work at a radio station, but itās a lot harder to do and it requires a certain personality.
I wanted to be an engineer, an architect and construction worker as well...
wanted to do it all for bridges, lol
Didn't make up my mind until high school... but failed at it anyway.
I'm sorry. Hope you're doing something you like at least.
Retail. I guess its ok. Gets the bills sorta paid.
Right. At least it does that. Not doing retail but customer service and at least it sorta gets the bills paid as well.
Yeah. I'm a few years away from retirement, so hopefully, I'll. Do well with that.
Yes hopefully so.
I wanted to be Tom Cruise. But I sucked at acting and have regular guy looks. Besides, it turns out the position was filled.
Truck driver or firefighter.
I used to drive trucks, operate heavy equipment before I became a firefighter/medic.
I wanted to work for the forest service but everybody wants to be a goddamn forest ranger that has a bachelor's degree in agriculture. It's a very difficult job to get around these parts
I basically have... just a little longer than intended and by a slightly different path.
The wind blew and the shit flew and anytime I tried to make shit happen, I got thwarted.
Soldier, kinda did but as a reserve. Got a real job instead and kept the military thing going
Wanted to be my teacher's wife and mother to his kids.
I wanted to be the black sheep of the family and I succeeded magnificently.
I wanted to be in the aviation industry and I became an aircraft mechanic
Because I wasn't hardworking.
I didnāt want to be anything and I am nothing.
Wildlife Biologist... no money in it
