I am a movie buff but I don't always follow the normal paths. It is possible because I have watched so many. and this list is all about movies that I have watched not movies I have yet to see. and yes big blockbusters are not on here but my point being that these are movies that stuck the most out to me. and these are in order from least to best.
13. Goosebumps 2
Now let me be clear here. First the girl is cute and she is the main driving force for this movie, at least for me. The two boys are cute and funny but her story and involvement, from what I remember really helps to drive the movie. I mean... it starts out with a focus on her typing an essay to get admitted into a college... anyway.. it is also pretty fun, the neighbor is a great comedian and so is the store clerk and the mom is pretty funny too. Slappy makes a great appearance and the icing on the cake... well let's just say we have a cameo from the first movie at the end.
12. Peter Rabbit
I went to this because I had a free ticket and I did not want to watch it but I said what the heck I can always walk out and I wanted to watch something fluffy and positive that day. Are you ready for this? This movie is a love story and it is a love story with a major focus on Mr. Mcgregor's grandson. The whole movie has a babe movie feel but is in a much different direction than you would expect.
"SPOILER ALERT" But it starts out with Mr. Mcgregor having a heart attack! WHAT!! WOW!! IN A KIDS MOVIE!! yup.
I bring that up to a mention that this is very different from the book and you enjoy seeing where the rabbit hole goes .
11. Overboard
I bring this movie up because this is a reboot that really has a fresh feel to it and both Anna and EUGENIO are really great in this one! and I honestly hope they don't make another one because it is a great stand alone movie as it is. What also makes it is interesting is it is a supporter of Televisa and it is made in part with them. Needless to say this reboot will have subtitles, kinda of an interesting twist
10. Game Night
This one is short and sweet. It is one of the funniest movies I saw last year. It is also one of the sweetest movies I saw. The chemistry of Rachel and Jason is so adorable and it is truly a fun rom com.
9. I Still See You
This is another dystopia movie. But this is one about ghosts. This is one where ghosts live around the living and have code and rules that as the trailer suggests are now being broken. This is also a very strong title for Bella!
8. Winchester
This is a great period piece on a classic tale based on real events. It is hyped up to be sure but it is quite a ride and a fun one, even just to travel back in time for a little bit :) The movie is also really well filmed and has a great feel to it.
7. Action Point
This is such a feel good movie. There is adult humor in this sure but most of it just feels like a kids feel good movie almost. You feel good watching it and you feel better after you are doing watching it. What's interesting about it, is it is a really sweet father and daughter movie. What makes Johnny great in this, is that is he is generally a good person or at least tries to be and it is really sweet to watch him take care of his crew and how he tries to be a good dad.
6. Deadpool 2
You might be saying to yourself "holy F Knuckles! what the F is this doing on number 8! Have you no shame!!!" Well, let's just say that this is a very funny movie, very likely the most funny movie that came out last year but just humor does not make it to the top of my list. But I will say that this was very much as close the top as possible. and you really should see once upon a dead pool for the princess bride extended scenes.
5. Mary Poppins Returns
I was thinking who is able to replace Julie Andrews and then Emily came and shocked the crap of out of me. She was so near perfect it was scary. The effects were great, the things they did, I mean everything like the first movie did. It was just as fun and just as whimsical as the original movie with all original music.
For those on the outside of this movie or never heard of it, it really has a great and fun harry potter feel to it.
4. A Quiet Place
This movie really reminded me of the cleverness of classic horror movies. Well thought out and carefully crafted. It really impressed me. It was so original and brought with it a new level of fear. Emily and John were just great and so was the girl. Such a great cast and a fun movie. But brace yourself for the bathtub scene, you will need your boyfriends arm.
3. Maze Runner: The Death Cure
Yes it was part of a series that was ready to end. But it ended well and it was a great movie that had you hopeful in suspense and right with it to the very end. The ending was also perfect and helped to make a perfect close to a painful and deadly journey.
2. Tomb Raider
Why does this movie get one of the top movie spots? Because it is one of the finest movies based a video game that I have ever seen! and Alicia could not have been be a better Tomb Raider, she was amazing and perfect casting for the role! She alone really carries the movie. Sure the plot and story line is not perfect but it flows well and it was very enjoyable to watch. You can really relate with her character and you can really see the lara croft fight for survival shine. A truly great movie.
1. Ready Player One
For those of you that know me from last year, this was all I could talk about it. It is such a wonderful celebration of pop culture. It reminds you of willy Wonka where instead of a ticket it is an egg and instead of the chocolate factory it is the oasis, it also has the focus on the creator. There is so much that can be found by watching this movie with the right set of eyes. Mainly the idea of the creator. For the last game it was won by Atari's adventure because in order to find the Easter egg you had to look for it and the Easter eggs name was the creator of the game. The creator wanted to be found and he wanted people to look for him and to know him. It was never about winning, it was just enjoying the game. If you watch the creators history and follow it, you can see that it was all about creating for the sake of just playing and enjoying playing the game. I just got lost in this movie. and there is also so much chemistry with the characters and the love story between the two main ones is so good. It just reminds me of why I go to the movies. This movie was clearly not liked by all people but I see more in it then most.
As a finale I wanted to list two that are for sure going to be in the list for 2019:
Happy Death Day 2U
No video can really capture the fun of this so I will post an interview instead
This movie is so different from the first, it is went almost completely sci fi and the movie poster does it no justice, it is honestly a sci fi comedy and it is so good, I saw it twice. The person that plays tree is great and she is so fun in both of these movies.
Alita: Battle Angel
This movie was a lot of fun and it was for sure a popcorn flick but it makes you question the involvement between robots and humans. It does not have a strong Detroit become human vibe but it is a lot of fun to watch.
