It’s weird that anyone even mentions race when being cast for a role in a fiction movie. Who gives a shit what race James Bond is? As long as it’s a good movie and he’s a good actor… nothing else matters, at all.
Well, just mentioning Bond's make believe race caused all of this. I am not suggesting changing his race for folks who are angry over the change. When a person is concerned about race, then they are concerned about race. There isn't any room for negotiation. I think for the rest of us, it forces the conversation in a direction not previously discussed.
No one has been cast. There has been no decision made. People were just playing around with the "Black" Bond casting because a few years back he was voted "Sexiest Man Alive". There isn't much discussion about having an Asian bond. The funny thing is, you are one of the few posters that has even commented on that.
So if they made Ariel Chinese, that would be cool? I mean that is what the take is about. I argue against a “Black” Bond. I would argue against a “Black” Ariel for the same reasons. Did you read the take?
That's the thing that's funny. People think "woke" culture comes from "White" guilt. . . and not greed.
The Disney used this formula to take the Marvel Franchise from being 4 billion dollars to 22 billion in a span of a few years. The MCU is the highest grossing film franchise of all time.
And perhaps stop changing the actual race of real characters. That's all I am trying to say. If a movie changed the race of Howard Hughes, John F. Kennedy, George Washington. . . I mean, I get it, even I would be upset.
But I will never understand how in fantasy land. . . race has to be real. That's the place we run to to get away from the silliness of everyday life.
James Bond is real? Yes historical figures should be kept as accurate as possible (though how many times has POC been whitewashed by white actors?). But fictional characters…are fictional.
How is it race swapping? And why does his make believe race matter over what the reality of the character's British background?
I mean I don't understand raciologists. I don't understand why race is more important than culture. Can you explain?
If an Indian man was born in the UK, grew up going to English schools, and being a member of English culture, what makes him less English than one with "White" skin? And why on earth would the British be inclined to listen to race experts who's only expertise is the weird American society?
Well, the reasoning is thus: Mexico was colonised by the Spanish. Spain is in Europe. Europe is (or at least "was") white. Therefore Mexicans are white.
Why are you so... obtuse? I was going to say "dense", but that might have been insulting. I was responding to YOUR comment here - "But Mexicans are "White". At least here at GaG." I then proceeded to explain why most people at GAG see Mexicans as being white. Do you understand now, or do I have to use baby-talk?
@Rachelspiks Dude, I only said that because making Bond "Mexican" in the view of some racists would not be changing his race. Other racists would go insane over the idea.
You do know racists who consider all Hispanics members of a different race. I mean, I don't know how racists roll with other racists. But you appear to have internet access.
You sound so stupid, MLK being black is an important aspect of him that’s not the same for James Bond his race plays no important role so you can’t just claim him as a whites only character
I thought this would be a hard conversation and I know this forum is insane. But I never thought that most of these folks would not look at the "take" and launch into endless tirades about why Bond can't be "Black" should not be "Black" and how I am wrong for wanting him to be "Black". . . when take is called, "The Problem with a "Black" Bond". . . .
it is beyond weird. It is beyond crazy. I mean racism is an American thing. But even most Americans are not this insane when it comes to racial issues. They can actually opine about Bond being Asian or some other ethnic grouping.
@Rachelspiks So your point is that Hollywood has never gender swapped before? Swapping out a role that was written for the woman and substituting a male?
The actor you posted the picture of above. He's clearly Indian, not "black". That much is obvious to anyone who isn't blind or stupid. It's possible he's from Central Asia, one of the "stans", because I don't know the actor and have never heard of him before. I'm basing what I know on that single photo there.
@Rachelspiks Henry Goulding is not an Indian living in Malaysia. He is British of Malaysian descent. His mother is indigenous Malaysian. His father is British and he grew up in Surrey.
What is wrong with you?
Why wouldn't the British citizen in this conversation know about Henry Golding's career? He made his living on British television.
Neither Malaysians nor Indians are "black". That was the only point I was making here. I don't know this actor, the one you have such an attachment to. I've never come across him before, so I don't know his story, I'm not familiar with his work.
@Rachelspiks So your friend states "you have to make him "Black" because making him "White" would be racist". So I tell him that Henry Golding, whom I write about in the take, is not "Black". And then you step to me repeating the same thing, just like you are making a point.
I asked you, what is wrong with you?
Please explain what is wrong with you. Do you not understand English? Do you think I am the poster "manhater". . ?
Did you read the "Take"? The problem with a "Black" Bond is people pretending that limiting our discussions on race and culture to "Blacks"/"Whites" is constructive.
'Casino Royale' was perhaps one of the worst of the lot, and the actor - Craig - probably the worst. As my brother pointed out, "He looks Russian!" I guess the Craig Bond is now a double-agent. :)
By the so-called critics, who are always to be relied upon to set us ignorant plebs straight when it comes to knowing what's good for us when it comes to the movies they want us to watch. (sarcasm off) Okay, so they don't agree with me. So what? I don't care. Apparently you believe their opinions are actually worth considering, and that 'Rotten Tomatoes' is isn't an unbelievably unreliable and biased source of information when it comes to ranking films. The reviewers get PAID to praise some films and criticise others. You did know that didn't you?
@Rachelspiks Yeah, they are called critics because that's their job. They review films. But you can look at highest grossing Bond films if you want. Casino Royale is still ranked fourth. You see the issue is you can just say you disliked the film.
But there is no internet troll who can do that. Internet trolls always have this make-believe crowd of folks who agree with them. When almost no one else does, except other online trolls.
I liked the film. And I don't have to search far to find someone else who liked the film. You are just an online troll stating things that are not true. . . for purposes of debate.

Bro it’s idris elba nobody cares. He’s hot. An Asian dude is a good choice too but an Asian dude wasn’t casted

Oh my god i already thought he was bond.
Nope. In fact, I don't think he wants to be. Idris is a character actor. He likes that freedom.
He and Craig had a little fun when the rumors were swirling.
At least they had fun with it
I don’t think it’s a problem. But for Ariel I’m going to be mad if she turns black! They already have two movies!
So if they made Ariel Chinese, that would be cool? I mean that is what the take is about. I argue against a “Black” Bond. I would argue against a “Black” Ariel for the same reasons. Did you read the take?
Let's not give the British too much credit here. They are motivated by money, just like when they built those slave ships.
That's the thing that's funny. People think "woke" culture comes from "White" guilt. . . and not greed.
The Disney used this formula to take the Marvel Franchise from being 4 billion dollars to 22 billion in a span of a few years. The MCU is the highest grossing film franchise of all time.
Yes race is stupid. But whites having the majority of opportunities means we have the ability to change it.
And perhaps stop changing the actual race of real characters. That's all I am trying to say. If a movie changed the race of Howard Hughes, John F. Kennedy, George Washington. . . I mean, I get it, even I would be upset.

James Bond is real? Yes historical figures should be kept as accurate as possible (though how many times has POC been whitewashed by white actors?). But fictional characters…are fictional.
I see no reason to race swap any franchise movie character. They could just as easily make a new spy character who happens to be Asian or black.
How is it race swapping? And why does his make believe race matter over what the reality of the character's British background?
I mean I don't understand raciologists. I don't understand why race is more important than culture. Can you explain?

Fuck bond being black or white for that matter. They'll both suck. Bond should be Mexican it can be called Juan bond.
But Mexicans are "White". At least here at GaG.
Well, the reasoning is thus: Mexico was colonised by the Spanish. Spain is in Europe. Europe is (or at least "was") white. Therefore Mexicans are white.
@Rachelspiks?
It's pretty straightforward. Read it again if you have to.
@Rachelspiks Dude, what is your deal.
This "Take" is called "The problem is a Black Bond".
Sorry "With" a Black Bond.
Why are you so... obtuse? I was going to say "dense", but that might have been insulting. I was responding to YOUR comment here - "But Mexicans are "White". At least here at GaG."

www.npr.org/.../why-the-kkk-is-reaching-out-beyond-white-folks
I'm waiting for the Broadway musical of MLK's life where MLK is portrayed by a white actor.
That would be ground breaking.
You sound so stupid, MLK being black is an important aspect of him that’s not the same for James Bond his race plays no important role so you can’t just claim him as a whites only character
Do you know the difference between James Bond and MLK?
Most racists don't get this part.
LOLx10!!!
Gotcha!!!
I find it kinda funny tbh. They're arguing about a character. So what if he's not white? Get over it karen
I thought this would be a hard conversation and I know this forum is insane. But I never thought that most of these folks would not look at the "take" and launch into endless tirades about why Bond can't be "Black" should not be "Black" and how I am wrong for wanting him to be "Black". . . when take is called, "The Problem with a "Black" Bond". . . .

Yeah tbh most of the people on this forum seem pretty racist and close minded
Okay then, let's make 'Wonder Woman' male.
@Rachelspiks So your point is that Hollywood has never gender swapped before? Swapping out a role that was written for the woman and substituting a male?
I think he should also be trans-gendered to tick another box.
The funny thing is we are probably going to get a transgender major character in Matrix pretty soon.
Both directors are transgendered now.
So you might be getting your wish soon. . . brave anonymous poster.
Fantastic.
You have to make him black because making him white would be racist.
I understand that racist trolls do not read.
That's why I posted pictures for you! Racists make changes to the definition of race every single day.
So now Henry Goulding, an British Asian actor is not "Black". Wow! The more you learn!
He looks Indian. Indian is not black. India is in Asia, therefore he's Asian. There, simple.
@Rachelspiks Uhm Henry Goulding, you mean the guy who is the lead for Crazy Rich Asians, looks Indian?
I just want to let that silly statement hang there for a minute.
The actor you posted the picture of above. He's clearly Indian, not "black". That much is obvious to anyone who isn't blind or stupid. It's possible he's from Central Asia, one of the "stans", because I don't know the actor and have never heard of him before. I'm basing what I know on that single photo there.
@Rachelspiks No, the actor I posted is clearly Malaysian.
WTF?
Okay, Malaysian then. You do know, don't you, that there are many Indians who live in Malaysia. I guess you didn't. My point was that he's not black.
@Rachelspiks Henry Goulding is not an Indian living in Malaysia. He is British of Malaysian descent. His mother is indigenous Malaysian. His father is British and he grew up in Surrey.

Please explain what is wrong with you. Do you not understand English? Do you think I am the poster "manhater". . ?
Because if you agree to this, next you're gonna get a gay Bond and next a female Bond.
What in the world do you even mean?
It's really simple I don't know how you missed my point.
I don't think you know what your own point is. Otherwise it would be pretty easy to understand.
I think you can't read and have missed first few grades in school otherwise it would be pretty easy to understand.
You can play by yourself. Maybe if you weren't so busy trying to insult me, you could have added something to the discussion.
But you are just a standard internet troll. . . trying to hurt folks via a website.
Good luck with that.
I don’t see the issue here. What’s wrong with a black Bond?
I kind of describe the Problem.
Did you read the "Take"? The problem with a "Black" Bond is people pretending that limiting our discussions on race and culture to "Blacks"/"Whites" is constructive.
Your whole argument just didn’t make sense
I don’t understand. What is so confusing? Too many people pretend “racial” issues are only about “Blacks” and “Whites”.
Anyone or race can be a bond I don’t care.
I don't usually upvote anonymous folks.
But there you go!
A chink bond would be worst
Anyone know why when I call a fruitcake racist a fruitcake racist, I get my post taken down.
But a fruitcake racist can be reported for using a racial slur and his post gets to stay?
These movies are a yawn anyways
Some of the movies were off. But Craig was a top notch Bond. And his first one, Casino Royale, is a masterpiece.
'Casino Royale' was perhaps one of the worst of the lot, and the actor - Craig - probably the worst. As my brother pointed out, "He looks Russian!" I guess the Craig Bond is now a double-agent. :)
@Rachelspiks It is funny how almost no one agrees with you.
Rotten Tomatoes? It is ranked fourth. Typically accepted as Craig's best effort and among one of the best Bond movies ever.
Did you see the film? If you like Bond, I highly recommend it.

He's ok, but I would've liked tom cruise
Goulding? You have seen him act?
