you must be new to music if you think kanye is overrated. i'm not the biggest fan of (new) kanye, but he pretty much changed rap/rnb and mainstream music.
@Other_Tommy_Wiseau right so much what youāre saying is kayne produced out of time lyrics and lazy rap until someone said hey!!! And he used sampling (aka copying someone elseās work) to get him in rhythm with the occasional āuhhā āyeahā and used a famous band who he didnāt know of because he was so oh so cultured. When compared to an actual rapper he managed more sales yes but rhyming āmeā with āmeā and āhotlinesā with āhot linesā. Itās true. That is amazing.
In other news I studied music for years and there is more to rap than being unable to rhyme and having to slow the beat down so your brain is able to read what you had ahead. Kayne doesnāt even embrace the origins of rap! To say heās a rapper is to say Miley Cyrus is a true country singer.
@Hidden_P you obviously didnāt get the point. Rap was either undergoruund/hardcore or vanilla ice type rap at the time. The reason rap today is on the airwaves as much and in the style itās in is largely because of Kanye. As I clearly stated in the above comment, the 2007 sales battle is what changed the genre. He also changed how rap is done through auto tune and using synths, etc. Sampling has always been in music long before Kanye. If you think he started that shit, you clearly donāt know anything about music. Also, you donāt I donāt get the point of that rhyming comment... thereās different kinds of rhyming. That not a rap thing, thatās just basic English. Heās not the best lyricist by any measure, but the video also explained going from lyric based songs to āanthemsā.
Whether you like it or not is irrelevant. Heās not my favorite artist, let alone rapper, but letās not get carried away. I donāt like Michael Jordan, but Iām not dumb enough to say heās not that talented or didnāt change basketball...
