A toss up between Michael Jackson and Madonna. As for the 1980's being the "best decade for music", well, that's debatable. I personally prefer the 90's and early 2000's.
Get real, 1980's was so competitive , with so much talent. No one in the 90' s much stands out. Why do you think M Carey got so many #1(19) hits , because she had no others to compete. Madonna had Prince and M Jackson. If you lived in 1980's you would say 1980's
If Prince would have not made his songs xxx rated he would have had most #1 hits all time. They had to edit is songs to play them on the radio.
He wasn't my personal favorite on that list, but I chose A. The King of Pop (assuming the Billboard didn't discount him due to his fall from grace).
He peaked 1982 to 1987 . Thriller was his best album , my favorite was Off the wall , also my favorite song. Also , we don't know if he was guilty. He paid them to get rid of them. I doubt if he did it.
I voted A regardless.
The 1980s for sure, why do think so many commercials and movies put 80s songs in them , But for artists I would say Michael Jackson and Madonna
Lets say , women just were breaking out , so you have to give Madonna the nod at the greatest from the 1980's. Harder for a female. She would reinvent herself 3 times to new ages of fans.
Michael Jackson. Even putting aside the popularity of his music, he revolutionized TV, music videos, fashion.
Actually it was Peter Gabriel that revolutionized TV Music. He put MTV on the map. His video was most watched. He was very creative with videos.
Michael Jackson broke the color barrier on MTV. And the thriller video was an actual event.

I wish I was alive in the 1980's, such a great decade!
I'd say it was Michael Jackson, but Madonna and Whitney Houston were very successful back then.
Phil Collins is my choice.
https://youtu.be/YkADj0TPrJAI'm kind of late on this but I liked Prince more then MJ.
Elton John or the Eagles.
whitney houston
she broke records with 7 number one hits right off the start and she started in 1984 -1989 .
You would be shocked where Billboards has her ranked all time. I think it is too low.
yep , they have M Carey ahead of her. No way on any planet. Carey is overrated. She has 19 #1 to houston's 11 , but her music is not as good.
MJ was always on top
yeah, madonna was my number two, but her hits were always songs i couldn't remember
