Trending & News It is definitely the 90's, since it was the most innovative period for all genres while staying consistently good. Ironically, I say that when it's not my favorite decade of music.
- Rap was at it's peak and significantly evolved more than any genre. Lyrically it was at it's peak. (Redman, Tupac, Biggie, Wu-Tang, Ice Cube, etc.)
- Rock became very experimental, but you had artists from prior decades still producing good hits. (Tom Petty, Cranberries, Nirvana, RHCP, etc.)
- Country started to commonly include elements from other genres while sticking to their traditional roots (Tim McGraw, Eddie Rabbitt, David Lee Murphy, etc.)
- Metal had stared to evolve into many subgenres, which meant more listeners. (Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, Cannibal Corpse, Mayhem, etc.)
I am not going to go across every genre, but you get the idea.
but the 90s is when the concept album and the guitar solo.
It's also the decade Rap/hip hop went from fun party music to profane gangsta rap.
it's also the boy band decade.
R&B and Pop essentially became the new family friendly party music. By the same token, a lot of rap music was still used as fun party music, but I guess that just depended on the person.
I meant to say "the 90s is when the concept album and guitar solo died off."
It's when music with musical instruments became less popular and music made by DJs and computers became more popular
I wouldn't be surprised if that started dying off by the late 80's.
How do you figure? In the `60's, we had psych. The MOST creative music ever created! In the early `80's, we got a lot of new tech and instruments so, again, we had LOTS of very creative music! Then rap came along in `86 and basically destroyed music ever since! The `90's had SOME good music but, not very much!
@FunkyMonkee Well, by the late 80's you're starting to see a decline in use of orchestra instruments, which simplified music in a way. That doesn't mean the music was not good either.
I am not sure how rap destroyed music, as each genre was influenced by different things and changed in their own different ways. This is because each genre has it's own standards/culture, which is why not everyone likes every genre out there. Also, there is still good music made today, but there's been a decline due to how every business out there is focused on profits more.
As for the 90's, it had plenty of very good and bad music. I do not think it produced the best music ever made, but consistently it was good across the board in every genre out there, which you cannot say for any other decade.
Because there's no music IN rap! What little there might be is boring and repetitive as fuck! It's basically a short tape loop played for 5 or 6 minutes while some schmuck rabbits on in a boring monotonous tone in really bad and forced rhymes that Dr. Seuss would've even rejected.
I guess you've never listened to music from the `60's. Even the bad stuff was good! THAT was the best decade for music!
Probably 80s as it produced some of the best and most iconic songs we have.
Most of good music was between mid 60 and mid 80s so I guess the 70s😅
yeah, but disco

I’d say the 90s. 70s were pretty strong too, but there wasn’t much in the way of hip hop, and that’s my main wheelhouse, so I give the 90s the edge.
1980s some beat 1970s but 2000s beat even 1980s.
I would go with 50s and 60s.
There were a lot of changes in music in the 60s.
Definitely the 70's to at least 2014 ❤️
