It stopped being funny around 1980 when they just kept repeating the same skits over and over again and most of them had no ending. Granted, a lot of Monty Python skits had no endings, and they were designed that way, but at least they had links to take you from one skit into the next, quite often supplied by Terry Gilliam's cartoons. SNL's skits just STOPPED DEAD and suddenly, there was applause and you get taken to a slew of commercials before the next half skit starts and eventually goes nowhere. They knew which characters worked with the audience so, they kept creating skits around them but it was a lot like how you start playing peek-a-boo with a baby and the end result is ALWAYS the same, but your audience, the kid, always wants to see it again.
It also didn't help when they lost their 2 main funny people, Chase and Belushi! The rest were all just side buffoons, none of which were all that funny.
I stopped wasting my time with it when it was the new Samurai warrior bit, the new cheeseburger bit, the new Coneheads bit, the new Killer Bees bit, the new Land shark bit and, ever week (almost) it was the same thing. again it was like playing peek-a-boo with a baby! These skits are what the babies expect to see so, let's give them more of those no matter how stupid they are, the audience seems to love the CHARACTERS, NOT the skits behind them! At that point, I would've rather seen the full 2-movie versions of Chiller Theatre come back. They were reduced to one movie when SNL started.

Yes, I still find SNL very funny today. I will give you that at times the show has it dry spells. But it's been on TV for 47 years. It's going to happen. But overall the show has provided some of the funniest sketches, memorable characters, quotable lines, political satire and just good reasons to laugh at ourselves. The list of famous people the show has produced and list of movies that have come from SNL is insane. Currently I love Joust and Che weekend updates.
It's the best show to poke fun at all our crazy politicians. Not to mention all the amazing live musical guests over the years.
I have a saying, if you don't like the current SNL, wait 10 years and you will love it. To bad you don't get it, your missing out.
I liked SNL in the 90s early 2000s. But, as Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan were leaving. SNL were struggling to stay afloat with laughs and what kept the studio going was
amy poehler, Tina fey, Maya Rudolph. Along with old SNL guests and New pop music.
Then in 2008 when new writer John Mulaney joined SNL.Everything just went down hill with cringy sketches, political jokes, and cast crew leaving to marry celebrities Or do their own shows 🤷🏻♀️
Back when John Belushi, Dan Akroyd, Jane Curtain, Bill Murray, and Gilda Radner was on it SNL was good. I haven't seen any of the new cast as I stopped watching it years ago.

There was a time when it was semi-funny (A long time ago) but now it’s a place where they put failed actors/comedians to keep them out of sight; plus it’s just politically biased trash that favors the liberals. All you have to do is take a look at the Kamala Harris/pence debate from the 2020 election they had on Saturday night live in which Kamala had her ass handed to her, every question she brought up was debunked, she continuously stuttered, she even contradicted herself on numerous occasions… while pence kept a level head made no mistakes. Saturday Night Live on the other hand made a whole skit about a fly landing on his head and that is it they made no reference to the actual debate just a damn fly. These people are idiots I don’t know what drugs they do but they need rehab and a therapist. On another note though, Jim Carrey is probably the worst comedian who ever lived anyways. There’s a reason he is on Saturday night live now, it’s because his name is Known but he sucks. Therefore in order to get rid of him, they just shove him on SNL where very few people will see him and he will eventually phase out and be forgotten.
SNL was funny before you were born, kiddo. The first several years were great, absolutely great. They've had a lot of lean years, but some of the best comedians of the past 40 + years have come off that show.
You're entitled to your opinion that "SNL has never been (funny)", but you'd be in an extreme minority. But it's nice to know that YOU know it "will NEVER be funny" going forward. Now that I know you're truly psychic, will you help pick some stocks and do some sports betting? Actually, just a big lottery will work."SNL has never been"
There, you are just wrong, in its Golden Age from the 1970s to the 1990s, it was brilliant. But today? Yah. Sure they were political back then too, but they never let politics get in the way of a good laugh. They even had right of center cast member comedians, from Dennis Miller to Victoria Jackson.Mixed. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes awful as you explain.
I guess I think it’s more awful than good, because when I like one of the shows I say, “huh, that was pretty good tonight.”
what I find more bizarre is that I actually watch it even though it’s badThe golden years of SNL were the late 80s and early 90s. That was with the comedy crew you mentioned above. Phil Hartman, Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, etc. Those guys were all iconic. It’s so sad Hartman and Farley passed away.
Nowadays SNL is just far left woke “comedy” that appeals to a tiny segment of the population. Not even mainstream democrats find it funny.Saturday night live is a sad sad broken down relic of what it used to be in decades past. Give us the Eddie Murphy's, Chevy Chase, Adam, Sandler, Dan aykroyd, Steve Martin, John Belushi, Norm Macdonald, Chris farley, Chris Rock, Dana carvey, David Spade etc. from what I saw in the past few Saturdays the talent died a couple decades ago.
Go back to the first three seasons. It was hilarious.

I'm not gonna lie... used to be funny. Maybe like back in the 90's. Then again not every single sketch from that show was top of the line hilarious.
Now at days,... you're right, Lorne Michael's show has already lost it's comical tone and appeal to it.
I might end up watching SNL in our current times maybe like every once in a very very very blue moon. For the most part of things,... I've lost interest in that show & now at days I just don't care for it.SNL used to be very funny, with talented original cast members Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, Chevy Chase etc.. Over time, though, SNL has lost its way. Now, many of the sketches are just dumb, and the cast members are not that talented.
I'm with you, although, SNL has created some of the most memorable pop sketches. I personally would like to see some competition out there for them. We can use more humor especially for those who don't choose to watch SNL.
i grew up in the glory days with chris farley and dana carver on it when it was hilarious. it hasn’t been funny since will ferrell and norm mcdonald were on it, the cast used to be comedians now it just feels like it’s failed theatre and liberal art majors from new england that put together terribly unfunny woke “humor”.
Two eras are the greatest! The OGs and early 2000's. It's not that funny like it was a decade ago, rarly you see a good funny sketch but not that often 🤷♂️.
Some clips are hilarious but most of it isn't funny. Then again, I wasn't a huge fan of it years ago either. Every now and then I'll watch some sketches.
In the current cast, Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, Heidi Gardner & Aidy Bryant are who make SNL skits funny. Beck Bennett was also funny but he recently left.
I have not watched it in ages. I think it is time to come up with some different ideas for entertainment. It was good once. But that time is past, I think.
There's very few that I thought was funny.
Majority of it is just unfunny trash and the skits just goes on way too long. I remember actually falling asleep watching SNL.
I really have no clue how they're still on the air.My friends invited me to watch SNL and I didn't like their jokes honestly, but my friends where laughing. Like what the fuck
@JustinTheGreat I have to agree. This one is Cute and I usually Flick through Any stupid things. lol!!! xxoo
No way it's even close to funny. I watched it many years ago. Now I check it out occasionally to see if it is entertaining, but always disappointed.
