I really hate movies that try to appeal to all demographics. The big, puppy-dog wookie was fine. But when they introduced Ewoks and Jar Jar Binks, I wanted to barf.

Honestly, I'd love some X rated scenes in well-made films by actual, professional film makers in which the movies have interesting plots and good acting.

My stepfather loooved sci-fi and fantasy, seemingly watched most that came out.
Flash Gordon was one of them.
One day he had Flesh Gordon in his hand, and put it next to the VCR. I misunderstood. I remember the look and low chuckle, as I realized it was 'one of those' again. Sometimes I wonder how we all lived together in that house, with such different 'interests.'
So, no, haven't seen it, and it would bring up awkward memories. But nice try/understandable suggestion!

I would see it if they made it, but it’s fine if they didn’t. Fantastical stories are meant to appeal to our childlike wonder. They demand a large degree of suspension of disbelief in adults. So making a more mature content fantasy isn’t just unnecessary, but in a way it’s oxymoronic.

No, I would like to see something original. Star Wars was a decent movie, but that was thirty five years ago - how long are they going to keep milking it? When was the last time you watched a proper sci-fi movie, with an original, thought-provoking premise, that wasn't just a remake or a sequel, or a generic action movie with lasers (Marvel shite is certainly not sci-fi)? Noone's making them any more.

I get what you mean though. I always thought that about the Lord of the Rings movies - the theme is so dark, and yet the tone of the movies was super cheesy. They needed to be much darker in tone, more like Game of Thrones (basically Lord of the Rings for grown ups) or even "300" (a bad movie, but stylistically very dark).

TV crime dramas always seemed really dumb to me too - you have this dark subject matter, with people murdering each other left, right and centre, and apparently that's all fine - but nobody can *ever* swear, because that would just be too much!

I am on the fence about that, honestly. The franchise has always been family oriented and something to be passed down to the next generation. By changing the content to a R-rating or NC-17, it concerns me about the content and story they are trying to tell.

Outside of me wanting it to be a good story, it has to make sense and there needs to be a reason why the content that would give it the R-rating or NC-17 is in there. Is it used to explore the themes the story wants to tell or is it just thrown in there just because and for shock value.

I would rather keep the franchise geared to the whole family instead of doing a stand alone adult only audience so it isn't one that they have to wait to see when they are older.

But then you may as well have it in a different genre, I can see it moving up to a 12 but not 15 or 18. I loved it as a kid and adding sex to it isn't going to make it any more, tbh it'll probably end up bombing and put the other ones out of business. Besides when ever I've seen sex in films, pretty much everything I wished they didn't. Heavy kissing and touching sure but the sex is always unbelievable so it's like why have it. I watch sci-fi for the story for the action, for the unbelievable stuff and when I saw a kissing episode in stargate and another one in star trek it was unbelievably hilarious and probably some of my favourite episodes but that's because it's not all the time, and of the huge character development. Whereas if you have sex there's barely any development left.

Nah. It would change the vibe. I honestly think some of the later ones have been too dark and serious already. I get the drama aspect, but I like the ones with comedy in them because I think that's the true heart of what Star Wars is supposed to be. It's supposed to be fun.

Beginning with Episode VI and the Ewoks, Star Wars became increasingly geared towards children, which is different from being geared towards family. They started adding cute things. Silly things.

I say not really. I usually don't like "adult" versions of things that were originally for more general audiences. I think the limits of censorship encourage creativity. They don't get overexcited about making their characters say "fuck" or showing boobs, which I feel like distracts from the plot. That's just my experience though.
