Why do people believe having more subscribers makes them more relevant?

I've got a YouTube channel where I upload montages of whipping people's behinds in many multiplayer games

& I've got no subscribers BUT I showcase a lot of skill in these particular games

So why should subscribers matter to me if I'm very well versed in the games I play in the long run if I'm not interested in fame or money?

Just for the love of the game?

That’s awesome that you do it for the love of the game, but YouTube can also be for business oriented use and a lot of people desire to make a living off of filming what they love to do.
