+1 yDracula. It has mystery, romance, and adventure—plus the collision of the old world of dark superstition with the modern world of steam and photographs and telegraphs, and the changing roles of women who could become professionals with their own work and still find love and marry. It’s epistolary; which gives it a wonderful character-driven flavor and allows for some deft withholding of important plot details. It’s a tale of honor, integrity, and self-sacrificing courage against ancient evil. It’s my favorite novel. …and I still cry for poor Lucy every time I read it.

+1 yOk so from a bookworm like me I have so many recommendations. First rule Don’t Read Colleen Hoover Books!!! They put you in reading stumps. So now time to list off my favorite books.
1) We were Liars- e. Lockhart (mystery, teenage romance, huge plot twist)
2) All fall down- ally carter (mystery, embassy row, dumb teenage mistakes)
3) The last Witness- Claire Mcfall (mystery, unreliable narrator, supernatural)
4) The housemaid- Freida Mcfadden (2 perspectives, domestic abuse, plot twist)
5) The twin- Natasha Preston (evil twin, murder mystery, mental illness)
If you need more recommendations don’t be afraid to ask!

A relatively short, but extremely fascinating and original, science fiction novel called 'Displaced Person', by Lee Harding. It will make your hair stand on end, and make you question the very nature of existence. Plus the fact that the story is actually set in the neighbourhood in the city I grew up in, makes it even better! :)

@Bricealan I actually did, and although it's only a thin paperback novel, your eyes will pop out when you see how much people are asking for it. At Amazon the lowest price is about $150, and goes up to about $600.
It's a very rare book that's very hard to acquire, and thankfully I managed to find my own copy for just a few dollars (in a local shop, not online).

It's an extremely old book (1939) that was also made into a Black & White film (1941).

+1 yI read Desperation by Stephen King one day, and couldn't put it down. A lot of suspense. I recently picked up "From Russia with Love" from Ian Flemming. I haven't finished it yet, but it's getting good. I've always been a fan of the James Bond movies, so I thought I'd give the books a try. Lots of action and adventure!
10 ReplyI honestly have a few - the Harry Potter series is always amazing, Khaled Hosseini's books especially A Thousand Splendid Suns, I really like A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and To Kill a Mockingbird. The most recent best books I read are The Secret History and The Poppy War, maybe not everyone's cup of tea but they both really stood out for me when reading in ways I hadn't felt in a while

I just read your update haha sorry! The books I mentioned aren't really what you're looking for maybe, but check them out if you're interested anyways! The Secret History can potentially be a mystery? But again, check it out. And I always recommend checking on goodreads, you can find the most recently popular as well as lists with the genres/themes you like
1.2K opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic. There is no best book, only books that I particularly enjoyed. When I read Pride and Prejudice in high school, I found it hilarious. Catch-22 was also quite funny. I need to reread it. Lately one of my favorite books was "Thinking Fast and Slow" about the way people make economic decisions. It's often irrational.

+1 yLately, "Where the Crawdads Sing" by Delia Owens, they made it into a movie, but the book is much better. As per usual, there is much more detail in the book.
Don't get me wrong the movie was good. I like those period piece type novels and movies.
