Comes from this song here by Billy Joel. Do you agree the ‘old days’ werent always so great and also that tomorrow or the future doesn’t seem so bad either?

a lot of people seem to glorify the past and lament at how ‘bad’ things have become since then. But this song lyric states the opposite of this sentiment. What do you think?

in terms of morals and values, the past was a lot better

in terms of technological advancement, the future should be better

there needs to be a happy medium between both, take sports for example. the earliest athletes weren't as strong, fast or as skilled as today's athletes but they were for sure much more mentally tougher

The Old days had its ups and downs, doctors would come to see their patients at home, but back in the day they didn't have many treatments for illnesses, and they didn't charge much for food, gas, etc.

Yeah, and people weren't so uptight either. I remember going to the corner store before I even before I became a teenager to get my dad a pack of cigarettes. They would ask who was the pack for and I answered for my dad and they would hand them to me after I paid the 33 cents for them. I got to keep the change because dad gave me 50 cents to buy them.

@najekim Yeah, my late paternal granddad did the same thing, there was this Ma n Pa store, and they sold cigarettes and I remember they didn't charge much for the cigarettes. But one day my granddad had me go into the store and buy him a pack of Pall Malls and my late Grandma was a born again Christian, and she would yell at him Lou, she didn't want him smoking.

It depends. Like the 2000s and 2010s were in my opinion I freaking awesome time. And to me I would consider it the good old days. And even though I didn't live in that decade, I believe the 70s were awesome as well. Plus it's my favorite decade.

Some things get better, some get worse. At lease in the US, I've seen the culture become far less biased, far more diverse over the last 50 years. But - I miss the excitement and sense that we could do anything that was pervasive in the 60s.

Disagree, today and tomorrow just doesn't compare to the 90's. Being a kid in the 90s was some of the best years of my life. Miss the 90s so much if find my self watching 90s commercials wishing I could go back.

The good ole days for me were fantastic! Helluva lot better than today. Please remember, this was mainly before the World Wide Web was developed and the Internet wasn't really known about by the general public.
