Part Rock, because everyone my age was in love with it and I thought it was fucking stupid.

My senior year in high school was 1980-1981. I graduated at the end of June 1981.
The song that reminds me the most of those times is "Bette Davis Eyes" by Kim Carnes; it was a big hit that spring/summer of 1981 just as I was graduating. Over a 10-week period from mid-May through mid-July, that song was #1 for 9 weeks. (It was #2 for the week of 20 JUN 1981.)
Of course, because MTV would be launched on 01 AUG 1981, this was a frequent early video on MTV.

However, with constant FM radio airplay, we were forced to endure John Lennon's insufferable "Double Fantasy" album with insipid songs like "Woman", "(Just Like) Starting Over", and "Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)".
This is because the album was released in NOV 1980 after a 5-year hiatus and just 3 weeks before he was assassinated on 08 DEC 1980 at age 40.
So, for pretty much most of 1981, there was little escape from that living Hell.
Don't get me wrong - I like John Lennon and his earlier work both in The Beatles and as a solo artist, but this album was painful and we were forced to endure it all because he was assassinated by a nutjob fan, Mark David Chapman.
Maybe Highway Star by Deep Purple.

It's the kind of energy I had at that point.
It was also one of my signature songs when I was playing guitar and singing in three man garage bands. I could play the guitar lead almost perfectly and even improvise something approximating the keyboard solo while acting like a rock star.
A couple years later I got a souped up '72 El Camino and used to blast that song when I was driving.Let see, Eminem - without me. Nelly - hot in herre. The ketchup song. Missy Elliott - work it. P! nk - get the party started. Linkin park - in the end. I was hooked on linkin park and Eminem back then, nothing beats rock music bit Eminem is a very great contender and still after all these years
Actually released a little before my senior year but still... first song that popped in my year when I thought of my senior year...
Not gonna lie, I was kind of weird growing up, I didn't start listening to music until I got to college. Why? Meh, just wasn't into it.

There's more but those are the ones I can think of at the top of my headWithout a doubt, the iconic song of 1972 was American Pie, by Don McLean. But I was never a senior in high school.
I think the Vitamin C graduation song came out the year I finished high school. But I did not have a lot of close friendships so that song did not really apply to me, but I still thought it was a beautiful song.
I don't remember the name of the song or who the artist was. It was our graduation theme song. I'd know it if I heard the song

the 80's were so weird and the head cheerleader would do this in class... I remember several. However, I’d have to say “Single Ladies“ is the one I remember the most. The radio played it every other song. 🙄

TOOL - Stinkfist.
Oh boy, that's a tough one. I finished high school in 2007 and I'm a old schooler when the subject's music. Well, I was between Pink Floyd and Duran Duran at that time
Still a favorite 💕

You came of age in the 80s, I see. For me, it's a tie between Beautiful Girls by Sean Kingston and Bartender by T-Pain. The nostalgia is very bittersweet. I miss those times more and more the older I get.
I'd love you to want me
