What do you think of the Harry Potter TV series reboot that is coming out on HBOMAX?

I feel bad for the kid who will be playing Harry Potter. The Harry Potter movies have a lot of sentimental value for many adults who grew up on it. I already know the actor will get roasted by grown-ass adults and be compared to Daniel Radcliffe constantly. The actor is probably some 13-year-old who hasn't been around the block and is trying his best, but it doesn't matter if he plays the role perfectly and it's not his fault the script is just trash, and he's just doing the best with what he's got. They are going to ignore anything he does good and roast his ass like crazy. He'll be the face of the and the one they're going to shame the most.

It will probably be canceled after the first season, but if it makes it to season 2, that will be a miracle. But the actor will drop the role for their own sanity. They should have just done a spin-off series with Voldemort or James Potter as the main lead or some guy who is in Slytherin or something. I don't see how the actors will survive all the harsh criticism.

I'm disappointed. I miss when a bad show would be ignored, receive bad reviews and dissapear. Knowing that this will be launched by HBO doesn't help either, since they created the worst rated show on IMDB last year, Velma. A second season is already in the works.

I can bet all the money in my account that this will be an absolute trainwreck. Big franchises can't survive in the 2020s. Star Wars died, followed by Marvel, and HP is next to come.

I think they can; it's just that they don't give the fans anything they want. They make a Harry Potter prequel about a very underwhelming main character, Newt Scamander, who is hufflepuff, and hufflepuffs are the lowest rank. Newt is the main character, yet he feels like the supporting cast because he isn't strong enough to face the main bad guy, Grindelwald. The supporting cast carries the whole movie while Newt barely does anything.

Newt is a character no one cares about, and everyone wants to see Dumbledore as the support cast member instead of Newt. If they made one about a Young Voldemort, the movie would be getting sold out. Now, they are making a reboot that no one asked for. The Harry Potter movies were good enough, and it has been a short time since they were released.

When something is good enough, there's no reason to reboot it; otherwise, you're going to piss off the fanbase. Game of Thrones did a prequel with the House of Dragons, and it did pretty well. And they don't give bad reviews because they get paid by the company that makes the show.

It's bad choices that destroy modern franchises. I mean, I'm a Scream fan and what they've done to revitalise that series was so much better than I was expecting. Not flawless, but reboots can occasionally be warranted.

HP is a very unique case because the first run of books were objectively great. Instantly made into films and sold out worldwide. But the projects afterwards have been dogshit. The Cursed Child? Fantastic Beasts? Rowling's constant lore dumps on Twitter? Yikes. I recently found out there's a editing fandom called the Maurauders (I don't know if that's spelled right) where fans have actually stitched together different movie scenes to create a backstory on James' friend group. You see, if the creators had a glance, just a GLANCE online, they'd realise there's a desperate market of people praying for content but they just don't see it.

Franchises fail when they can't give the viewers what they want. It's a choice to ignore all fan service and make something that no one will watch. If this show just wants to give us HP: 2.0, it won't go well

That’s just greed. The story has been told, completely, with the existing movies. I can’t think of anything that reboot could do better. I doubt I will watch any of it.

It doesn't need to exist. The movies only just wrapped up and they were just fine.
