As my passion for civil war history increased, I've become very fond of Confederate music and I listen to it all the time. I like some Union songs as well, but the bragging and vindictiveness of much of it as well as the lack of variety in instruments is very off-putting to me.
It's also very meaningful to me that many of the songs were played in armies to improve morale, and I can tell it worked, because when I played some of the music while boxing, it sure filled me with bottomless zeal.
The only rap I'm okay with is Tom MacDonald, the others just consist of the glorification of degenerate behavior and constant bad language, which is as unimpressive as their lack of originality in anything they make or do.
I'm strongly opposed to sad music as it only makes me angry, I hate being sad, so my body naturally replaces sadness with anger instead to drown out that feeling when Adele opens her mouth.
The only exception to this rule is "Wearing of the gray" by Bobby Horton. It's a mournful song written after the war. I've become that much more fond of it after I had a dream that I was at the McLean house and witnessed Robert E. Lee surrender to US Grant. It greatly captures all of the emotions I felt, and certainly how real Confederate soldiers at the time felt once at last, enough blood was enough.
Happiness that the fighting is over, grief over the men who died or were crippled, sadness over the CSA now being just a memory, fear over what will be done now that the war has ended, and the feeling of failure that comes with the heavy burden of losing a war.

I’ve realized the common thread of my favorite music is that it has lyrics about the illegal drug trade and graphic depictions of the violence associated with that😂 I like other stuff too, but that’s the stuff that hits me right in the feels lmfao. Nothing could ever get me more hyped than that, I’m sorry😅
But I honestly listen to so much different stuff. Rap is always my home. I also love R&B, mostly 70s-90s. Pop Punk is my guilty pleasure, but I love that shit, lmao. I was a 90s teenager, so pretty much anything from the 90s I love, rap, R&B, grunge, alternative, pop was kinda mid, but some has nostalgic value. 80s rock and pop music have their place. Gotta respect the classic and progressive rock of the 70s, though I haven’t been too deep into the catalogue, mostly just the heavy hitters. Country is just very unrelatable to me, and I find the twang off-putting, so that’s not something I get into much…. but I definitely have time for Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, etc. Just not a fan of the modern stuff. What else…shit, I even like old 50s doo-wop, haha. I had a brief flirtation with dubstep maybe like 12 years ago when I was hitting 30 and trying to stay cool with the college kids lmfao. I prefer the kind of ethereal variety with some airy female vocals over your “bro step” or other EDM. Current music isn’t do a lot for me, to be honest, just a few artists or songs here and there, so most of my music is older. Griselda Records (Westside Gunn/Benny The Butcher/Conway The Machine) is the best thing out right now, in my opinion. I won’t bother with a link because if you like Tom MacDonald, you’ll HATE Griselda😂😜

I've always had difficulty finding any consistency to my tastes. For example, I rarely ever liked artists let alone a whole album. I just like songs here and there. Same with genre. I have difficulty pinning down and figuring out what I like that way.
