Early `70's were still good but, because everyone that did psych realized they could never perform it love on stage, they quickly went back to at least semi-acoustic and that's why there was a second folk/country wave in the early `70's and, some of the psych acts turned prog and made some great records but, some of them went glam and that sort of spurred on DISCO!! YUCK!! That, and the great dumbing down made the `70's the lowest cultural point in the history of the planet!!
It wasn't until at least `77 when new wave came along that music got really interesting, creative and good, again!! That lasted up to about `86 when rap reared its ugly, worthless head and music has gone steadily downhill ever since!!
Will we EVER get REAL music back, again? I SURE AS FUCK HOPE SO!! And, the sooner the better!!
So, although I'd say, the `80's was the best, it was mostly the first 2/3 of that and the last 1/3 of the `70's (sans the disco shit from that span of time). Sure, the late `80's to the mid `90's had its moments but, hardly any.
The pre-disco early-to-mid 70's were fine, though music re-segregated into rock and R&B/soul/"urban", because good hard rock bands popped up. The 80's saw (c) rap and Traditional Country (which supplanted Outlaw Country and "Countrypolitan"), as well as the rise of Michael Jackson, Madonna, Springsteen, hair metal and (at the end of the 80's) grunge. So the 80's were probably better, but boy bands began to take over the last few years of the 80's.
@handsomelad70 I never paid attention to much of the pop dreck of the `80's. My ears were pricked for things like The Police, Eurhythmics, Rupert Hine, The Fixx, Wall Of Voodoo, Bow Wow Wow, The Motors, XTC, Art Of Noise, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Propaganda, Yello, Tears For Fears, Adam Ant, Men At Work, Big Country, Kissing The Pink, Devo, Cheap Trick, King Crimson, Robert Fripp, Robert Plant, stuff that hardly anybody ever played on radio.
All good groups, but what happened to Big Country?
@handsomelad70 They kinda became a country and cover band and then, about 10 or 15 years ago, for SOME reason, Stewart hung himself in his hotel room in Hawaii. Either the band no longer exists or, they got someone to replace him and carried on but, I'm not sure which.
Oh, that's right, I forgot one of the lads hanged himself.
The 70s. tail end of the Beatles, . Then we had Crosby Stills and Nash, Bruce Springsteen, Dylan;s Blood on the Track, so much good music.
The best and most influential records ever made were released between 1965 and 1975. Music took a massive nosedive from 75 onwards.

I give it to the 80s cause that's when Hip hop really found it's place, and was bopping them out..
Bopping out whom? Biggie, Tupac and the other murdered (c) rappers? They were capped, not bopped.
@handsomelad70 Not in the 80s.. More like Rakim, KRS One, Beastie Boys, LL Cool J and even Will Smith.. LOL..
OK, but I still can't stand (c) rap.
@handsomelad70 I see.. I like good rap.. LOL..
Both but i like the 80's more since i was born in the mid 80's and was raised listening to 80's music...
While the 80s were Great, the 70s were SPECTACULAR!
