No, the `70's was the worst decade, all over!! Musically, the only good parts were the very early years until easy listening (Carpenters, Osmonds, Carly Simon, James Taylor, Carole King, John Denver, etc.), disco and glam showed up and then the last 2 or 3 years when new wave started. The rest of the `70's was directed towards brainless twats!! Sure, prog was big but not much of that ever got air time because the bulk of the people were just too stupid to understand it. Even Capt. Beefheart made his two shittiest albums in the mid `70's!
"Lark's Tongues In Aspic" was the best album King Crimson ever did in the `70's (`74) and, even though I was an avid record collector, I never even heard of it until it was at least 8 or 9 years old! I was on my way home from my singer's house and someone near his place was having a porch sale so, I went up to see if they had any records. They had a couple albums. The only one I bought was that King Crimson album because, I'd heard of the band but never that album. It must've been summer `82 because my brother hadn't come home from the Air Force with his newly acquired King Crimson collection and, I never heard of most of those until he came home. As with most people, the ONLY thing I'd known of theirs was their first album!
Sure, the early `80's was still part of the great dumbing down but, at least most of the music (new wave) of the first half was fantastic and creative!

Early 70s were the best. The late 70s had disco and as we all know.
I can see why it is considered that.. Music was starting to get more flavor in the 70s.. Starting to find a new beat.. I think the later 70s has the better sounding music in my opinion..
Early 70s is better, before disco ruined music.
Man, I can't pick. I grew up with that stuff and it's my favorite decade for music. But I can define it as such. The cream of the 70s, in my humble opinion, 74-77
Music reached the peak of perfection in 1973. This is well known.

This was the pre-disco era when the first metal and other hard rock bands were emerging.
Late 70s for sure.
